Hi guys,
After lurking on the the site looking at the Beresford DAC mod threads I thought it'll be great to join up and give my two penny's worth now and again ;)
Mainly a vinyl and toob amp man but I do have a loads of CD so digital is an interest, hence me looking at the Beresford DAC DIY stuff.
So to the kit:
Amps: I have two valve amps
i) The Signature - 30W class A/B tube amp, home made. Got the circuit from the Lunhahl web (http://www.lundahl.se/claus_b.html) - essentially it's an old Mullard design, circa early 1950's and tweaked for the 21st century. Uses Winged C EL34s - nice sound on the warm side of neutral.
ii) Son Of Heffa - 20W Class A , home brew again, but the design is from a couple of toob nuts I used to work with 10 years ago. KT88 design with 6SN7's - using all Electro Harmonix toobs. My reference amp - this amp can be very unforgiving if recordings are naff, very open and musical. My mate Speedy.Steve who posts here has one too.
Turntable: Pioneer PL71D with an Ortofon Rondo Bronze
Pre-amp: DIY Passive preamp TVC using Silk transformers, DIY SUTs for the MC step up - SUTs from Silk, Phono Pre-amp is a Trichord Dino
Speakers: Ruark Talisman II's - had these since 1995 and can't bear to part with them - love the sound they make..... may be a pair of Crusader II's could bend my arm though
Digital: DAC - Beresford 7510 Mk6/4 having caps rolled :) and a Mk6/3 that will be breathed on next. CD Transport - old Meridian 200 or my Marantz CD63 SE Signature as an alternative.
I have other hi-fi bits and bobs cluttering up the place:rolleyes:
Music tastes: Prog rock, modern country, smooth jazz and loads of other stuff depending on my mood at the time:lol:
The Beresford DIY stuff has been great fun especially the cap rolling, darn sight cheaper than valve rolling.
