The topping d50 didnt stay long but thinking maybe i should d try again, you never know.

Thinking a smsl m300 might be worth a listen,

But open to other sub £300 offers . Needs to have a good reliability record on web and balanced out.

Does it have to be Chinese?
I’ve have a Dac with balanced xlr that I could sell. Only single input though - coaxial spdif, and single xlr out.
Sounds great.
Google digital amp co. Dac Dac TL.
Send me a pm if interested @ £ 200.

I though chinese because its the only way to hit the desired spec. Need multiple inputs including coax, optical and usb

Have you had a look at the new Soncoz XQD1? Ticks all the boxes you asked for (including xlr outs) and objective measurements are superb.

Shame I've had to withdraw my Breeze Audio dac due to lack of interest it had everything you wanted. I'll have a look for a similar one on t'bay. It just needed an upgrade to the socketed opamps to really fire on all cylinders. In the end I went with 6xOPA627s at a cost of £150  but that was overkill.

Can't see any like mine but I would have thought this plus a 12v LPS would be a good performer.

Some interesting suggestions, thank you. I was hoping to find a used one for sale, i discounted the d5 because of some, propably isolated, issues beung reported. Used allows me to try and then sell on if i dont like at minimal loss. I know some dealers have loaners but unless i was 99% sure it was what i wanted i wouldn't be keen on this route.

Think i am going to have to raise the budget, after more thought and research i am going to want a screen and i think maybe a 4499 chip.

The smsl 300 takes power via the usb input which sounds messy to me, gustard a22 looked promising but no optical input, soncoz also looked promising but bit nervous of ess chip after the topping d50, top end wasnt that great.

Needs to be a step up from the superb young dac that still reigns supreme here

I thing you may struggle to find a used Dac for your needs that is newest chip.
New from China may takes ages to come and no back up..
I’d recommend getting Keith @ Purite to loan a Soncoz. He is your back up not China and may still have stock.
The latest ess is not bright, fatigue causing at all.
Others have found it and 4499 to sound the same.

I have sent a pm to Keith, about sgd1 and A18. On reflection i think finding used might be a challenge. Still open to offers though

Think the next 12 months will be an exciting times for dacs

No. Only China, or through Audiophonics in France.
Please note the xlr output of some of the Chinese dacs, they are often over 4V
