So as many of you know i've been waiting to get my new Primaluna Evo400 integrated for a while now, i ordered it just before the pandemic lock down and i bought it from Hifi Corner up in Edinburgh, who by the way were fantastic and i'd highly recommend them, problem is i'm in Corley in Lancashire, now i didn't fancy getting it posted so my only course of action was to sit tight and wait.

Anyway i decided yesterday that i should be ok doing the trip my biggest concern being stopped by the Scottish Rozzers, given a big fine and been told to turn round and head south, so thankfully none of that happened and it's finally plugged in, so here's a few photos, i need to sort out it's final resting place and tidy up the cables but what an amp and it should get better once run in, my only gripe was given that it cost the best part of £4K i would have expected to get some user documentation and some batteries for the remote control, but apart from that i couldn't be happier.

Must chuck out a few watts. :-)New version of the one I tried Ali when I bought the power amp, great amps, and great for tube rolling right up to KT150's [emoji6]

Think it kicks out 75wpc into 8 ohms in ultra linear and about 35wpc in triode

Sorry guys I’m wrong it’s not 75wpc it’s only 70wpc. It does partner the Kralks very well which I’m very happy about, the gut wrenching bass is still present in spades but it’s the difference it has in the mid and high frequencies that most impressed me, voices seem even more lifelike with an almost 3D quality and the clinical sound that you get with SS amps when you crank the volume up is gone. The good part is it’s not even run in yet so it’s just going to get better. One more thing I didn’t order mine with the extra built in phono stage but it has it anyway I think it was a few hundred ££ option, so I’m looking forward to giving it a run too, just to see if it’s anywhere near as good as the rest of the amp

It won't have the phono stage unless added,
that's just a blank for it on the rear.

£250 or so but if it's the same as the previous versions then it'll be crap as reported many times about the previous add in board for the Dialogue Premium range.

You'll be missing nothing [emoji6]

Official Facebook group below if your interested. Handy if you need to find out anything about Primaluna [emoji6]

Well it has the phono connectors and earth connector so i'm guessing they are connected to something, i'll take a pic when i have a minute so you can see what i mean. Regarding the facebook page, i'm already a member:), but thanks for the advice

I see no reason why the rozzers should have an issue with your journey. Going to collect hi-fi is most definitely "essential shopping"!

No it’s never been out the box before I got it, it had that burning in smell when I 1st fires it up, but I thought that if it didn’t have the phono stage it wouldn’t have the connectors, all the ones I’ve seen without them don’t have the little box housing the phono stage

Having spent the last 3 evenings with my Evo 100 playing everything from Jazz, 70s Rock to chugging dance music I'm super pleased with mine and I've maybe only put aboutb12 hours on it so far.

Unusually for her, Mrs B even complemented how it looks. Won't be trying any tube rolling with it for a while but certainly interested in trying kt120 at some point.

Pleased you like it Rich, I don’t think I’ll be doing much rolling either as my beast has 8 power valves so it will work out expensive, tbh I’m very happy with the stock EL34’s, I have plenty of power at 70wpc so it’s not like I need any more, it drives the very efficient Kralks with no fuss, bass is deep and tight and the EL34’s are noted for being exceptional in the mid and top end so on paper there really isn’t any good reason for me to look for something else.

Mine just got better and better up until i hit about 100hrs of playback, are you still running the Rega speakers mate?

I can vouch for KT120's Rich, as i have been using them in my own amps for around 7 years now, infact i much prefer them to the KT150's [dont tell Marco though ] as they have more air about them, and hence not as restrained, don't get me wrong, Both are very good new comers to the Valve audio world, i just find that the KT120's do more right than wrong in my system. Good luck with the amp, and if your liking what it does, don't be in too much of a hurry to change anything! :)

Great advice. I know these stock tubes have yet to reveal themselves and I'm certainly enjoying how it sounds already but great to know there's options when the urge for faffing about strikes as it invariably does.

I am. And they respond so well to tubes. We established this at previous NEBOs where I tried them with both Ali's 300b monos and John's primaluna integrated.

The two middle 12AU7 valves at the front are worth rolling if you fancy a change in sound. Then just save up for KT150s lol

Oooooh, that is a thing of beauty indeed! I love the arrangement of the valves; it has a warm and cosy look to it. And by the sounds of it, it’s doing the right thing for the music.

Excellent!

They are nice speakers mate, tube amps do tend to favour higher efficiency speakers, from what i've read here and on other forums bass seems to be the issue with lower efficiency speakers and folks tend to bi amp using tubes for the mid and highs and a big class A or D solid state for bass duties.

What do you reckon to the remote? a real weapon in the wrong hands you'll need to remember not to piss your missus off or you might find yourself in A&E:eek::lol::lol:

Mine is the slim remote rather than the full size one so would make more of an effective knuckle duster than a cosh :)
