Does anyone know what the highlighted thing is in the photo and it’s purpose?
Should it even be there?

Motor appears to be skewed over in relation to the cradle. Is the 'thing' wedged in as some sort of transport locking device?

I don't know Charlie. If it is it's always been in place.
I bought the deck some time ago. Heard it at the seller's place.
Had it here and running ok too.
Recently sold to a gentleman in Russia and he has highlighted it. I wasn't aware of it myself but then I am not at all technically minded.

That loose black cable looks like the spark suppressor lead, it hasn’t been disconnected and crammed in place ? Buyer looking for a discount by any chance ?

I can't really tell from looking at the picture, and it's years since I had a 301. Is it the mount for the eddy current speed adjustment braking? I don't think there's anything wrong with that.
