Hi,

Just a quick hello... I’m new to hi-fi and after having had an epiphany I’m now looking to bring warmth and depth to my life by acquiring a massive pair of Tannoys. I love my music and my main hobby is experimenting with electronic music, but I have only ever owned budget monitors or headphones. I got to spend a few hours playing synths through a friends Little Red Tannoys the other day and any doubts i’d been having about heading in this direction evaporated instantly. …a bit like my career did back in March.

Anyway, for nowI have set my heart on finding some DMT’s but I think that may be a waiting game (avoiding overpriced ones on Ebay) so will likely end up with something else to begin with. I had also decided to search for a Quad 405, largely due to romantic ideals and the thought that it was easy to work on. I’ve already acquired one for a reasonable price and am currently reading my way through articles from Keith Snook and Bernd Ludwig. I have the classic “hum on the left channel” and I’m looking forward to refreshing the PCB’s and perhaps adding RCA’s and new speaker terminals. It is indeed an accessible unit.

Please excuse any stupid questions that I may ask in the not so distant future…

…also joined the pinkfish forum…

Nice to meet you all,

HC

...P.S... how do you add an avatar? If I go to "edit avatar" there is no option to upload one...

I'd never heard of the Harry Crumb movie until I googled it. Good user name. Several on here have Tannoys or experience of them so should be able to give advice.

Welcome.
Rob.

Welcome to AoS Philip,

Quad 405s can be picked up easily for a reasonable amount and make an excellent 'vehicle' for upgrading and fettling following the work of Keith Snook and Bernd Ludwig.

Enjoy the Forum
