How long does Covid-19 live on surfaces ?

I have a good customer who wants to borrow a large pair of Harbeths and stands to try at home. He won't be buying them because he wants a different finish and different height stands, so I will have them returned in a couple of days.

I'm pretty sure he hasn't got anything as he is in lockdown but just in case - how long does the virus live for on wood and steel ?

probably not that long but spray some dettol surface cleaner on a sponge and rub them down. that will kill anything in a min or so.. its what i use.

It is correct that a disinfectant or dilute bleach solution will kill viruses. However, that may not be suitable for fabric or non-hard surfaces. Ultra violet light will kill viruses to so it may be worth investing in a germicidal UV lamp. Be sure to follow the safety guidelines regarding use though! These devices are not for killing the virus on human tissue!!!

These devices are very effective in cleaning mobile phones, tablets, mice, keyboards etc.

You can't kill Covid virus on surfaces, because it isn't alive in the first place. However, removing the fat around each Covid cell deactivates it. Curious, huh?

Hand santiser does it as will other appropriate cleaning agents.

This is true. Viruses are not living things so measures to reduce their impact aim at stopping them from replicating not "killing" them, though that term is often used as a simple messaging aid. Many agents will stop viruses from reproducing themselves including ordinary hand soap!

Wipe down with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol, it will break the virus down immediately and will be no more, and should not damage the surface as long as you do not soak it in it, and the isopropyl will quickly evaporate. Alternatively leave in a safe area away from everyone else for at least 72 hours, and not one connected to an air con unit that feeds other rooms.

By the way you technically cannot kill a virus as it is not a living organism, it exists, they are strange things.

As my wife is being ‘shielded’ we have been leaving parcels in quarantine for 3 days before disinfecting and opening.

ive started unpacking immediately then disposing of the outside packaging i dont need ...any other box etc i give a clean with disinfectant if poss.. i wash my hands and arms the a couple of times. anything i reckon hasnt been touched by humans for a while is safe then to handle etc.. i still will wash after again tho.

On that cruiser ship in the states traces were found after 17 days. However, I think I m right in believing the whole of the virus has to be intact to do any damage.
But as someone who has anxiety in there DNA everything that moves ( and does nt ) is being washed. Did accidentally get soap on daughters turmeric yesterday though

In case anybody wants to know, you can wash fruit in soapy water without harming it, use washing up liquid. Just rinse the soap off with clean water. I've been washing tomatoes and bananas etc with no ill effect to them. They still seem to keep as long as they would normally.
