Quads, Martin Logan's, Magnepan's etc, most things considered under 2k lets say.

Considering a nice pair as 'back-up' for my high spec Quads.

Working without need for service repair would be preferred.

Posted would also be good but I can certainly consider pick-up (maintaining current SD precautions).
Reply on here or PM whichever you prefer.

Much obliged,

Chris

Quality recommendation there Russell. Probably better than my Quads actually . . . . nice one.

Hi Chris,
If you can find a pair of Podium 0.5's you won't be disappointed. I sold my pair for £650 a year or so ago, and shouldn't have.
Best,
Joolz

Wow, that was a good price! As you say 'if' I can find some! Cheers

I've got the Model 1......massive, but brilliant. It might not be everyone's idea of normal hifi sound....but it's a sonic experience like no other.

They need a little adhesive on some spots to fully re-secure the drivers to the panels, other than that they're in good shape.

I've been thinking about letting them go for a while but unsure if it's such a good idea!

Haha, they are effing massive Rohan . . . literally larger than the door to the room . . . . must sound incredible though with panel area that size.

Certainly a consideration. I'd imagine posting them might be a little expensive . . . .

Chris, they are- it's an experience, that's for sure. They do sound rolled off in the top end which I had been tempted to correct with a super tweeter.

I in all my wildest imaginings had never envisaged posting these. The boxes they came in were a bit rubbish, frankly, despite being original.

They don't fit in most cars either.

Done Quads, Maggies, Logans but the best were these Danish Mag Audio full range ribbon speakers.... My friend now has them and they are stored away but he may part with them....

Rarer than hens teeth though there was a superb review in HiFi World moons ago and that's why I sought them out... Only because said friend handed me his EMT that I had to eventually pass them to him.... Best panel speakers I owned by a country mile and if you find a pair haul ass and grab 'em.

Interesting Paul,

any idea on the likelihood of him parting with them?

If they're within budget plus the possibility of arranged collection/delivery I'm all ears....

Cheers

Chris

Have you looked at the new budget Maggies?

I have a pair of Quad 2905s I intend to sell along with Townshend dedicated stands and also a pair of EAR 509 Mkii mono block amps to drive them when the current situation improves. I bought the speakers direct from Quad so am the only owner and they've had a very easy life as until retirement I used to spend little more than a month each year in the UK, they come complete with the original packaging which does makes a van necessary for delivery. I'm going to be asking somewhat over your notional budget especially with the stands which make a noticeable difference; PM me to discuss if interested
otherwise good luck in your search. Ward.

I have Magneplanar 1.7s and whilst I love them I resented the big UK mark-up. The new LRS appear to be small enough to be brought back to the UK as hold luggage. The import duty/vat on $650 would be pretty small.

Same as most products though to be fair . . . . Could make a killing importing Schiit Freya+'s at the moment . . .

They could well be the ticket, even at the UK price actually (although £600 vs £1000 isn't insignificant). If they're better than my Quads, great, if they're not I'll have some awesome backups which will be used in another system anyway . . .

In contrast to what would be my assumption here, I'm not actually desperate to be parted from my money (or indeed have it to burn), I'm just fed up with not having a pair of stats/panel speakers working when others are (inevitably) away for repair. I seem to be the most unlucky (or picky) with them having to constantly send them back and forth to 'specialists' who might repair them. I'd say 2 out of 3 times they have proven themselves to be useless in doing so but I don't have a choice as I don't enjoy any other type of speaker these days so it's something I have to live with.

Along with the horrific waiting times and abrupt customer service I have experienced, I've come to regard it as a necessary evil.
