Hello,
I've only recently started reading forums because for many years I was happy enough with a simple system - LP12 and a Linn Mimik/Onix 21s/Energy Pro 22 speakers. No-one in the UK seems to know those Canadian speakers,but I used to love them and when they died I went into hi-fi wilderness.
I finally replaced them with Linn Majik 109, moved to a Naim CD player, and have just got some new amps on the way, so my system will be
Sources; Naim CD5/Flatcap 2, LP12 (Basik Plus/AT95e), Onix BWD1/SOAP
Electronics; 202/200
Speakers; Majik 109
In my office I've got the old Linn Mimik, MacBook Pro through Lite DAC/AH, and some cheap Kef Q15 speakers. My LP12 is currently there also but due to be moved.
Its probably obvious where I'll be looking to improve. The LP12 hasn't been upgraded since I bought it in 1990, but it is due for its 21st birthday soon, and I'll hopefully be getting it an Ittok. I need a phono stage urgently.
What bewitched me about the LP12 originally was hearing it play Coltrane - getting the grain of the sax, nasal and dirty as well as velvety and sweet. 60's jazz is pretty important to me, but overall I used to think that my holy trinity was Bach, Coltrane and Joni. Of course its a lot more complicated than that. Joanna Newsom is a more recent obsession.
