Moon Gel dampening pads, selling on Ebay for about six quid, used by drummers. Anyone tried them for stylus cleaning, and are they any good? I can't remember where I saw these recommended.
Sorry, I think this thread may belong somewhere else

:rfl: You clown! I thought I was looking at an ad prior to the subject starting, and by the time I realised I wasn't, I was hooked. Watched the whole thing :) Shame I couldn't have the sound up, but Anita is already worrying about my mental health.

They were indeed, they had innocence, and the clumsy low-tech production just adds to the charm. It's what we grew up with, and we turned out ok :)
The modern kiddie cartoons you get on CITV, CBeebies etc are mostly computer generated and are just awful. And what the bloody hell did they do to Thunderbirds? They completely sucked all the charm out of it, stopping just short of sending the cameras up to Thunderbird 5 to expose Alan's porn collection :( And the new Thunderbird 2 (my favourite) is just plain wrong
Edit: it was John, not Alan. Sorry Alan

From a genuine query about stylus cleaning accessories to John Tracy's wank mags, in 7 posts. That's got to be a record, surely

This is what I used, works very well. Gel in a little snuff box, just lower the stylus in. Bit pricey , I paid half that, but it works well and lasts forever,. https://www.analogueseduction.net/stylus-cleaners/vinyl-passion-dust-buster-stylus-cleaner.html

Apparently this Moon Gel is exactly the same stuff, just packaged differently. I bet this happens a lot, where a product is repackaged nicely and repurposed. I just can't think of any off top of me head.

Make sure you don't loose the cantilever in the the gel by going to deep with it.
I found this today...
Onzow zero dust.

I have used moongel, Zerodust, Blutack and even putty but gave them all up, I could see that each time you drop it onto the gel and lift off it would pull on the cantilever which was of concern, I now use a long Sable artist brush to remove the fluffy stuff and for the hard gunk I use the magiceraser sponge (Amazing stuff) But again must be used very carefully.

What's a magiceraser sponge Paul, and where did you get it?
Don't get the Flash ones or shaped ones as they may be impregnated with disinfectant, you just want the plain and simple rectangular one such as these on E-bay :- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-Magic-Cleaning-Sponge-Eraser-Stain-Remover-Melamine-Foam-UK-FREE-POSTAGE/133204214376?hash=item1f03970268:g:yk4AAOSw0gVdkSr u
It is so cheap and a small piece will last a lifetime, If you look under a microscope it is constructed of fibre similar to microscopic Velcro, all you need to do is cut of a piece to fit in a matchbox, rest it on the platter and lower and lift your cartridge 3 or 4 times onto it (DO NOT DRAG) it will leave the stylus polished. Again be very careful and try on a not so expensive cartridge until you feel confident.
There's plenty of info online and on YouTube.

Thanks Paul, really helpful. :)
I also use the magiceraser method. I cut a small piece and place it in a 10ml screw top pot to keep it clean.
