I’ve been asked if the counterpoint preamp that I have for sale is one or both of the above , I think they came with mm as standard , is there anyway of telling what phonostage it has ? It says riaa which may have nothing to do with my question.

Google the model specs. Most pre-amps of the era came with MM only and owners used an SUT with them. My money is on it being just MM.

mm was the standard, but i believe they could be upgraded to mc.

I would expect it to be mm - if mc could be used it would be by way of a switchable option. Isn't riaa to do with mm anyway?

It was MM only and back in those days, we used a step-up x'mer for MC.

It's MM Andy with passive RIAA equalisation.
