Hi everyone! I just joined this group. I am a sound enthusiast. I do an amount of recording for choirs/organs etc. - all amateur. I have also been sound man for two or three local gigs.
I'm also a musician - I sing and conduct a very good amateur choir. I have been actively involved in choral music for 54 years. Much of my listening is choral/organ. But there's a healthy mix of other stuff too: Tom Waits/Genesis/Dylan/Police/Floyd/Eno/Clapton/Altered Images/Bundu boys/Loudon Wainright III/Stones/Zeppelin the list goes on and on and on.

I got the hi-fi bug in about 1980. I started with a Thorens 166 turntable, a Nad pre/power combination and some Mission speakers bought from Richer Sounds (bless 'em). Upgraded the pre-amp with a second-hand Quad 33 and finally saved up enough dosh for an LP12 in 1983. Borrowed a Syrinx PU2 with a cartridge I don't remember. Various upgrades and eventually splashed-out on the wonderful DNM 2A pre-amp with a twin power supply beautifully hand-made by Dennis Morecroft. A Linn LV2 and an asak cartridge. Then Asaka. Then eventually a Karma - the gold standard way back. Speakers went from Mssion 737s to second-hand SD Acoustics SD1s.

My system now is still the same LP12/Ittok/Karma the same DNM pre-amp. 2 x Musical Fidelity MA-50 monoblocs which I have extensively restored. Speakers are hand-made (by me) IPL Acousic S5TLs. I also have an Arcam CD192.

Working on the MA-50s has ignited an interest in repairing amps/CD players - mostly replacing discrete components. When I have time, I love it! I have been learning "on the job" as it were and have had great success so far and learnt SO MUCH! My MA50s are now reliable amps and sound absolutely fabulous!
