How much were you thinking? If low budget the Zero and Zhaolu (2.5 is best On think) DAC/amps are brilliant, I've never sold mine.
Maybe up to a grand all in for the right stuff. Maybe.. but would like it to be a bit less.

I was super impressed with JDS Labs Element, I think they have a new version now.
As for the headphones, it's difficult to make any recommendations because they're incredibly personal.
I will give it a look tomorrow ta.

nothing, just fancied a better ear system to go with them... im actually considering losing the main system, although not right now. i use headphones so much these days. if i can get it better critically then i might think a bit on it.
also it looks like i wont be getting out much if at all this year:rolleyes:

I really like my KLH Ultimate One Headphones, I took a bit of a punt on then from a couple of reviews, but they are certainly very good, about £300 and I think you would need to deepen a lot more to better them IMO. On the DAC front what about one of these https://www.schiit.co.uk/dacs/asgard-3-silver with the Mulitibit DAC card for £485, highly raved about form a SQ point of view. I find my MAGNI 3 Heresy excellent so the Asgard must really be good.
I bought a pair of Yamaha HPH-MT5W White Studio Monitor Headphones back in January Grant, they're really good but I'm thinking about moving them on.
I would be looking for about £60 posted.
I still have the original packaging and the phones are clean but I have used them pretty much every day since.
I bought them to compare to a pair Superlux HD 668B which are pretty poor in comparison to the Yams although the Superlux are semi-open back whereas the Yams are closed back so maybe not a great comparison to be fair.
I bought them on the back of this review (post 142) which is the same one that's on Amazon.co.uk.

Here's the Amazon review Grant, it's for the MT8s and it's long but well worth reading.

alas out of stock for uk models at moment but im keeping my eye on the stock on these.. gets decent reviews
Wish I’d thought Grant to bring over my Beyer Dynamic Amiron home cans, think you’d have liked them.
Head-Fi is a great source for this kinda stuff.

lol, I read a review that said they were not very transparent :ner:
Drill a couple of holes, add a length of string and would also have a telephone. Of course you wold need to empty the cans first.
Got a list of possibles now from what a can't afford to cheaper. Hugo is out currently. Rde is about tops price wise as is the mytek. The jds labs is nicely affordable.
Currently my ears have gone funny, so I will have to await them improving.. , if they do or not I don't know .
Once lickdown [emoji23] is over I might sell some more gear and offload my records in a lump job lot.
Thanks all for the help so far
Someone has just advertised a Marantz HD DAC1 over on Pink Fish for £400 plus postage.
Might be suitable.

Not sure if you have made a decision on this already but would suggest that it is worth looking at the Soncoz SGD1 which I have detailed in a seperate thread . It looks very well made and smart and measures as well as any DAC currently for a significant amount below your budget . The designer was behind the Tone Board DAC and i have one of those and it sounds very good indeed . THis one is no DIY baord but a fully made up all singing and dancing unit which should also sound better than the Tone Board . Only problem I have is no chance to listen to this and confirm it is as good sounding as it measures which are not always the same thing . Having said that this designer was able to make the Tone Board sound excellent and in line with DAC's five times the price so he does know what does and does not sound good . I am going to get to try this and see if it is as good as I think it will be .

I recently bought an Ifi Zen DAC and I am very pleased with it. It can be used as a pre-amp but I am using it solely as a headphone amp with my desktop pc. I am particularly impressed with its balanced 4.4mm output. I bought a balanced cable for my Hifiman 400i headphones and the results bely the Zen's £129 price.
