Hi all, hope I'm posting this in the correct section, I've just acquired an exposure xx super integrated amplifier, sounds great but I've two questions, firstly I've been told that exposure amps need a certain type of speaker cable to function correctly and the wrong cable can actually damage the amplifier, would this be correct?
Secondly, as the amplifier is probably 20+ years old are they still supported for servicing etc?
TIA

The Exposure factory is down here in Sussex, in Lancing, yes they can service your amp for sure, I visited there once, they changed one of their old phono stages to MM for me. Think Exposure needs similar cable to Naim. I wouldn't mind trying an old Exposure integrated.
You need low capacitance cable. Linn K20 works well, as does Naim NAC A4 and A5. Same with Cable Talk Talk 3 or 3.1 and Kelvin K120. Any reasonably thick copper stranded cable with a spaced insulator should be fine.Exposure made their own cable back then too but it’s harder to find.

Many thanks for the reply, not sure it's in need of a service but good to know.

Thanks for the reply, so I normally use chord speaker cable, no good?
Which one do you use? You’d need to check the specs. If it’s much over 100pf/m I’d try something else. The Older Exposure amps had no Zobel network, so the cable forms part of the amp circuit. Basically it will sound better with low capacitance cable as well as being free from any risk of instability.

I have chord rumour cable, any recommendation's not too expensive?
TIA
Something like this would be a very cheap way to get there.

I've had 2 Farlowe era Exposure amps in the past and can confirm they sound way better with at least 2m of Exposure's own cable (which is essentially rebadged Talk 3). The reasons given in the above posts are all correct. If you can't get suitable cable, at least stay away from anything plaited or woven together.
You'll find that the amps give quite a boom through the speakers when turned on, this is completely normal and won't harm your speakers. Contact Tony brady at Exposure about servicing needs and for general advice, he's very approachable.
Enjoy the amp!

Most speaker cable has a capacitance of less than 100pF/m. The only two that I know of having high capacitance per unit length are Klotz LY240 and anything by Isolda. There may be others, but most (including 6A lawnmower cable), ought to be OK.

Ah, Townshend Isolda, pretty much an unrolled capacitor.
I use Van Damme HiFi with my Exposure amps, due to the "shotgun" construction, so very low capacitance and moderate inductance, which old Exposure amps like.

Got some of the van damme cable so it's all good now, the amp is great, however doesn't fit where my previous linn did, the other half isn't happy with it on top of the unit so may be moving it on
