As many of the AOS faithful have said in the past Ikea quite by accident make some very good HiFi furniture, the cheap as chips Lack table which costs as little as £9 springs to mind.

So today during lock down boredom i decided to take the system apart, give it a clean and put it all back together. I use a Besta unit which is from the TV furniture range of Ikea products, it's not stupid expensive and it's modular so you buy the bits that you need, so i got mine with the carcase, feet, shelf and a door.

Now the floors in my house are far from level and in the past i used beer mats to level things up, however today i found that the square wooden legs on the unit have screw out feet, so after five minutes with a spirit level everything was perfect, the unit even has a hidden centre leg which stops the unit from bowing and again it too has a wind out foot which i knew about but the other four were a welcome surprise and have made things a lot easier and neater looking. To sum up you can buy furniture specifically made for HiFi which comes with a hefty price to match and i'd rather spend that cash on actual equipment and not the stuff it stands on, Ikea have probably by accident produced an inexpensive unit that has plenty of space and gives a solid platform for all your kit.

Well done Ikea!!

You should add a bean bag for visitors, they have great comedy value :)

I have, I think it was called Expedit unit in black(ish), which I think was the forerunner to Kallax. Perfect for record storage, and having eight sections is probably good for about 600 albums. I cut some (6) 3" long pieces of 4x2 which I painted black and fixed to the underside to give it legs. Looks like proper furniture!
