In my area Hermes stuff is delivered by on old guy (my definition, older than me!) in a dilapidated car, never had anything damaged from him, he's always polite and friendly. Tried to leave feedback for him, but found it difficult on their site.

UPS + 1 :)
DPD, you get a 2 hour delivery time, so no waiting in all day. Hermes, I've sent hundreds of packages with them and never had a problem.
Stay away from Yodel, we waited in from 7am to 7pm, driver never turned up. Same next day so I phoned p2go and said I could have me another courier who was slightly more expensive. The woman who I was talking to said "as a sign of goodwill you don't have to pay the couple of quid difference". Well I hit the roof and said about waiting in for 24 hours, I should be compensated, blah blah blah. She apologized again and said, quote, "we have been getting quite a few complaints against Yodel recently".So I asked why the hell are you using them then?...........because they're cheap.
Beggars belief.
