Very Regretfully For sale
SW1X Audio Design DAC 1 Signature with high grade Audio Note Kaisei and Black Gate capacitors and fully Solid Silver Wired.

Dr. Slawa (SW1X) Roschkow no longer makes this Limited Edition Signature DAC1 with these very high grade caps, the closest he makes to this version is the new 'Special'version.

The specs of the one offered here are very similar to the DAC 1 Special, except for This Signature DAC 1 comes in a smaller chassis and therefore has no tube rectification in the B+ power supply. Spec is in the link below
http://sw1xad.co.uk/product/sw1x-dac-i-special-2/

For reference, the Signature version of the DAC 1when last produced was GBP £2040

I have had this wonderfully unique piece of Audio in my system for 3 years without a hitch.

The sound is as close to high end analogue as I wanted and really is a special product. The sound is very cohesive, smooth without grain and is very dynamic without edge.

These SW1X DACs don't come up for sale used very often as users simple hold on to them as they are so good. The Signature version was a real sweet spot in the SW1X range

I think it's a steal at the price of £900 including UK delivery insured well packed in a suitable box (Dr. Slawa doesn't do boxes)

It's in fantastic used condition, no marks on face plate at all, there is a tiny mark on the top edge of one of the sides, it is NOT visible from front and I only point it out for total clarity

I also have a
Schiit Eitr - USB TO SPDIF CONVERTER for sale
I can bundle that in with the SW1X Signature DAC1 for £90 (no box)
or £120 on it's own (£10 del)
(Priority to the DAC purchaser)

A friend of mine reviewed the base model, and thought it compared well with his Audio Note DAC 2.1, a damn fine bit of kit. This looks like a bit of a bargian. GLWTS.

Listened to this very dac on numerous occasions ... it's really very good.
Whoever snaps it up will be getting proper value for money imo.

I owned this very model at the start of my journey with SWIX. It was a big step up on anything I had heard before - well mannered with a kind of youthful exuberance and a breakthrough moment in terms of NOS Dacs.

This is now something of a collectors item, as Slawa still builds and voices all his own kit at present. He has plenty of orders for the more expensive DACs etc and due to time constrains this model has unfortunately fallen off the chart.

Recommended.

it certainly is a serious DAC, it delivers far more than I thought digital could in the respect of sheer involvement and musicality.
As you say they are not made to this high spec any longer at this performance level in the range. I will seriously miss it. Anyone who's been over to WESTLOWER mansions will vouch for how it presents music.

So tempted - I've always wanted to try one of these designs. How does it compare with a Chord Qutest or Metrum Octave? Either way - I am still very tempted ....

The DAC III special must sound amazing - that's got the TDA1541 installed I believe - my favourite chip of all time. I still get musical juices from an Arcam Black Box 1 which houses the same chip.

I actually had the Metrum octave mk2
Which for me at the time was a fine performer, a bit polished sound wise but ok.
SW1X DACs are in another galaxy! And so it should be, at getting on for well over £2,000
And stuffed with top spec Caps. Really the Metrum Octave isn’t close in quality.
This has all the class, push and dynamics without the grain or edge.

Those attributes are in the DNA of all Dr. Slawa’s DACs, I say that with total confidence.

I just wonder what the heck you are replacing this with ?

It certainly does sound amazing. I stated off my journey with the DAC 1 when Slawa first started out, and even before he had brought improved models to market. I saw the evolution of, and then bought the DAC II followed by the DAC III. Each time I persuaded myself that the sound was so good that it couldn't be improved on, but Slawa proved me wrong. Being on a pension I have to avoid listening to his top DAC models, whilst I await evolution of his power amp range which I hope will be single ended triodes.

His power amps 'might' be single ended triodes - but looking at Slawa's profile - he will use what sounds best rather than latch onto the idealism of single ended triodes I would imagine.

i guess the problem with buying expensive used equipment is that other than opinions, I have no idea what it sounds like.

It’s a high end component that has been reviewed independently with very high praise.
More than enough people are familiar with SW1X and their products

Can I remind you This is a sales thread please, and not a debate on how to ascertain how to judge SQ of used Hifi
Please can we stick to the topic. Cheers

This fantastic DAC is still available.

sorry I didn't mean to start a debate. I am in search of a high quality dac for a second system. I sold my wadia a few months ago and I am not familiar with this brand although I have owned, built and used Audio note equipment before but as you say, it's not a place to find out about the equipment. Good luck with the sale.

Ok Thanks.

Take a punt!
I’m Guaranteeing you wouldn’t be disappointed if Audio Note DACs have impressed you.
Dr. Slawa has taken a lot from Peter Qvortrup approach ...
