View Full Version : Time to re-organise

I thought it was about time I tidied up that hifi rack and re-organised, it did not look great before and decided I could improve. The difficult thing was where to site the Allnic amp, I wanted to try the TT on the top of the isolation stand and loose the shelf it normally sits on. After some measuring I work out that if I was careful I could site the amp on the middle shelf with the 4th removed, however due the that amps dimensions it meant carefully lowering it down from the top, a two person job as it weighs in at around 25kg.

I stripped everything off the hifi rack, moved the speaker nearest out the way and then moved the rack to the new position leaving pace for the speaker. Sue help me with this and then we carefully lowered the amp down onto the shelf, very stressful with little room for error or hands, anyway it worked fine. I then spent a couple of hours working out where everything should go, positioning the LFD Phono stage on the bottom shelf as far from the amp as possible. I took the opportunity to wire tidy and once all back in place powered up and experimented with Rothwell SUT position until I minimised any hum/feedback, it is not perfect but fine for now at normal listening levels. I might try in several other positions any from the rack and if better fits a small shelf for it.

Fist picture is before and the rest are the end result, the TT also sound pretty good on the rack.

Looks very tidy now, well done.

Looking so much neater Adrian, especially with the 'cable management', and bringing your TT over onto the rack. Those speakers look like they mean business, and certainly look good - I bet Sue prefers them! You just need to tidy up your Signature now :D I know you do play a lot of vinyl so no doubt you will quickly hear if taking it from its wall coupling affects it.

Good to read that Sue is well enough to help with the heavy lifting - clearly the 'raised bed' you spoke of making for her in the greenhouse is giving her a better quality of sleep :D

On the TT front I did notice yesterday what I think can only be described as faster attack, some tracks I listened to sounded more lively and punchy. Perhaps there is better isolation on the stand:scratch:

Can you fit a different tone-arm to those Project 10 decks or are you just stuck with the original arm?

I had looked at it and I thin the answer is yes, the bass of the arm incorporates VTA and forward and aft adjustment, I think by getting a boss machined the fitted the base then you could keep both features. The alternative would be to remove the whole thing at the base plate which is held in place with 2 bolt and then make a suitable arm mount machined to fit to it and then mounting the arm to that, nearly anything is possible. By the way the arm works very well anyway.

I often wonder if people actually listen to music or the stereo. My speakers are also behind the sofa.

It's amazing that you can rearrange your kit and the speaker(s) change to different models; clever stuff, that.:lol:
