Hi there

First post so be gentle.

I have a pair of Mission floorstanders ..which are 6 years old.Last year both drivers went down within months of each other. I got them repaired for the reasonable price of £50 each. The guy in the store aked if anyone smoked in our household. I asked why and he said the manufacutrer said it might have been smoke reisidue that dried up the coils that caused the breakdown. Could this be true?? simple solution of course quit smoking or smoke outside.

I smoke but for last 3 years only outside. If one looks at anything exposed to cig smoke it is revolting. Tars and other gooey substances cannot fail to have some effect, not exactly smooth slippery is it?
Wish I never started - there is no up side.

I get just as much stick from some of "da management" for sticking up for the underdog... if I had a pound for every time I've been moaned at for 'not being on the same page' as, erm, certain others, I'd have a few quid by now! :lolsign:

I once bought a set of used headphones that stank of stale fag smoke when I opened up the box, I could never get rid of the smell no matter how much I scrubbed at em.

As a smoker, I must agree with you regarding the smell. Although I will say that roll ups dont smell anywhere near as bad as ready made ciggies.

I have never come across drivers "drying up". Even on club systems that were exposed to several hundred smokers a night, fog machines and smoke from pyrotechnics. We did give the cabs an annual scrub and paint, but the drivers were merely hoovered.

As a smoker of nearly 40 years standing (although habit free for the last 3 years) and during my smoking 'phase' having owned speakers by such marques as Wharfedale, AR, ARC, Royd, Linn, B+W and yes even Mission (briefly).
Of those speakers only one ever let me down, no prizes for guessing which one, however it was sod all to do with smoking but everything to do with being a lousy pair of speakers, so much for HFC and their Best bloody Buys:(.
At least they had the decency to fail while under warranty and so were replaced with something much nicer;).

PS: 3 years without a fag as of Thursday (paid for a whole new HiFI):lol:

Slightly off topic, but I quit 2 1/2 years ago using Champix tablets. I'd tried loads of times before, using everything - cold turkey, cutting down, patches about 5 times, but never lasted more than a few months. Champix was different, because it basically "erases" the synapses in your brain that tell you you are addicted and takes away the desire to have a ciggie. I do now have the very occasional one since February (probably one every 2 weeks) and still love it, but have no desire or intention to make it a habit again.

The downside to Champix is that it can make you feel depressed (it did with me) but I was able to live with it because I knew what the cause was, and that it would stop when I stopped taking the pills, but you wouldn't want to be taking it if you already suffer from depression.

Agreed re the Champix, that's what cracked it for me, amazing that feeling of just not wanting a fag.
Wasn't depressed with it as such but bloody hell coming off the stuff after the end of course was extremely weird, feelings of being detached both physically and mentally interspersed with wild mood swings from euphoria to almost tearfulness within minutes, disorientation and even an occasional sense of ego dissolution (very psychedelic).
As you say, you just have to hang in there and remember it's simply a reaction to the drug, thankfully the symptoms fade after a few days and all has been fine since but that wonderful feeling of simply not wanting a ciggie remains as strong as ever.
Sorry to ramble on but if anyone reading this really wants to pack the weed in Champix really does work, any downsides are far outweighed by the benefits, go for it!
