Hi all

I will soon be building a new full set of Interconnects and will be using the Van Damme Shotgun Cable throughout and that has a 6mm outer diameter

My usual supplier of the type of plug I used in the past has ceased trading so I am looking for recomendations for a good quality plug to use

Anyone got any recomendations for a plug that will fit a 6mm OD cable

Been on the BayofEvil and found a few that look ok, any thoughts on these

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Gold-Plate ... 1398906510

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEUTRIK-PHON ... 0603457781

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4pcs-RCA-Mal ... 3949843047

Thanks for any help with this

Paul

I use these and they're very good for the money . The silver part can be removed for thicker cables . https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6x-Coloured-Gold-Plated-Metel-RCA-Phono-Male-Plug-Solder-Adapter-Terminal-AV/151905714448?ssP

Look smart and can you fit them tightly without solder? That's a big plus for me [emoji1]

These are my and many others on here go to choice

Tried these as replacements on many a bought cable, always found an improvement, https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Line-Silver-Plated-Tellurium-Copper-RCA-Plug-connector-2pairs-4pcs/253592925398?hash=item3b0b50f4d6:g:su0AAOSwNFFa5n8 z

Obviously a copy of the KLE plugs at a fraction of the price, there are also pure silver ones if you are feeling a bit spendy https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4N-pure-Silver-Star-Line-RCA-Plugs-connectors-4pcs/252448813888?hash=item3ac71f3340:g:MTgAAOSwXeJXc2X v

Lack of a metal body( alleged reduction in eddy currents) and a hollow centre pin seems to be the way forward for rca plugs, great for digital coax cables too.

Saw it somewhere on Keith Louis Eichmann's site Geoff but can't seem to find it now, I'll keep looking. May well be a spurious claim, if so, apologies for the mislead.

Seems I may well have inadvertantly bought into some spiel:o oops, but I truly believe they are better than the solid pin variants. OP edited!!

Something more reliable than forum trends or manufacturer blurb would be of interest Martin. As with most things, plug/connector choices seem led by fashion.

Indeed, but time and again against some popular branded plugs in genuine blind listening tests on my own gear with my own ears they come out on top in terms of transparency. Which to me is the most important aspect of hifi reproduction.

It obviously goes without saying that YMMV.

I’m just getting into the make-your-own-interconnects game and have been surprised by the price of some RCA plugs, so these KLE replicas look ideal. I’ve ordered some anyway, so we’ll see! Thanks for sharing the link.

Thanks for all the replies

In the end I went with these, well made and a perfect match to the Van Damme Shotgun Cable I use

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/163915903131

A good prices as well as I needed about 30 to do full set of interconnects, my OCD does not allow different cable and plugs, even if no one can see behind my setup, I would know they are there waiting to play their mind games. ;)

I like the look of these too. Might get some for phono stage loading plugs, piece of cake to swap and change resistors......

I have been using Switchcraft RCA's for years. If there are good enough for Shindo, who am I to argue....
They are cheap and reliable

I have always used the Neutrik PROFI RCA connectors, easy to solder and have a decent cable grip.

Hmmm🤔 sounds like code for an OEM for a famous futuristic brand name.

I agree - but some dislike the additional 'layer' of the retractable sprung-loaded barrel between the outer part of the socket and the outer part of a plug.

That said they grip like there's no tomorrow.

You won't find any, as it's marketing twaddle. Along with plastic-bodied plugs being better because of their "lower capacitance". If you crunch the numbers, this may well be true, bit only if you're putting RF of several hundred MHz through them!

Personally, I always use Neutriks like these: https://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/rca-connectors/4572947/

Good quality and have a cable clamp that actually works.

I've measured the capacitance of several brands of RCA phono plugs, and regardless of construction they all measure around 5pF.

Fans of the 'bullet' plugs talk an awful lot of twaddle (IMO) about eddy currents in metal-bodied plugs, yet fail to comment on the compromise in shielding and the increase in contact resistance (Hertzian constriction resistance) due to reduced contact area of the bullet/finger with the outer part of the phono socket with which it mates.

Have a look on EvilBay and search for locking Phono plugs.

IIRC they are only suitable for use on realy thick cable like the 60pf Van Damme stuff ;)
