Forgot to post this... how remiss, although no-one noticed. :eek:
Well heavy snow overnight so woke up at 6 with a blizzard ongoing. Stopped now tho and starting to warm up so guessing it wont last too long. currently 2c
Snow?? Lol... *Total* opposite here. Dry, bright and sunny, with a slightly coldish wind. Perfect walking weather!:)

Chilly today with a real blow-your-ladders-over winds. I'm sick of this winter now, the novelty has well and truly worn off
I had planned a walk, lovely sunshine but very breezy, but then Sue got delayed with work and I had to pick the kids up from school so the walk was kyboshed... hey ho. still chilly enough for a burn up in the wood burner this evening as usual.

Wall to wall blue sky here, and very pleasant. not a breath of wind, and no sound coming from M61 half a mile away. Quite eerie. spent yesterday afternoon making improvements to my old bird table, armed with better materials and tools.
Plan to give it some Ronseal Fencelife later, then do a bit of pointing on bungalow's roof verges. That should get Mrs. P off my case for a while - may even get to play my Steel Pulse album which has been earworming me this morning :)
Weather set to be colder again after tomorrow - get out there while you can!

Absolutely. Having an alternative to four walls makes a big difference. But I won't bang on about it cos there'll be an unlucky few who live in flats etc who only have access to communal areas. Gotta feel for them :(
Indeed.... Also, it still lifts your spirits if you wake up to a bright sunny morning, and can see it looks nice outside, even if you can't get out. Better than looking out to rain.

Well you don't HAVE to do anything, just enjoy the sense of space, and take a radio outside, or a book, or your laptop. Open a window and play your tunes extra loud. Or think up some ideas of your own, or would you like me to recommend some books/records (sorry I meant CDs)/radio stations for you? Or can you take it from here? :D

Del and I have been having quite a few meals together in the backyard, enjoying the sun. Plus, even when I'm on my own, I love having my meals outside in the fresh air, posting there from my laptop (wifi is good all around our house), and I can also stream music out into the garden:)
Plus, I've been busy gardening! You can't do that if it's pissing down, so in that respect the weather matters:cool:

Possibly, but only Martin can answer that.
I can definitely say though, that I'd struggle to live myself without any female company. I'm too much of a social animal (only with folks I get on well with, though). Yes, I also like my own space, and get that when Del's at work, but I really look forward to her coming home, so we can spend time together, and I enjoy that much more than the 'me time' beforehand.
As ever, it's a case of each to his or her own... I just think though that if you're my age, or younger, and still in good health, that you've got a lot more to live for than just being cooped up in your house alone, especially when you've retired, bearing in mind that Martin will be in that happy position pretty soon.

Mrs. P had a couple of hours working in the garden, I helped by keeping out of her way and watching Marathon Man and The Truman Show instead. Might go outside tomorrow if it's a bit warmer, but I don't want to get all my jobs finished too soon. Gotta pace yourself.

Well i spent all day pissing about with this turntable. Nop its irreparable. Looked at the parts breakdown, someones removed a small piece of the auto return to make it fully manual. Absolute prickz..
Looks like i now have a major problem cos modern decks id rather go without. Looked at a Rega but sorry cant live with one.. Im born to be Vintage :D, cant shake it. Well i can shake vintage Brit stuff very easily

I'm using vintage. Got a TD150 II and a PL-12D here, sounding far better than most would believe.
Still got the SR-370 with 774, but it's not in use at the moment.

Im illurgic to bouncy decks too. I have two issues with the PL12 that i cannot live with. The bulky plastic control panels & the quality of the Platter. Its just gotta be 70's Japanese but what i ask myself.. I used to like the old Sansui 'SR1050' but the motor just went dead on me one day. But thats the look im after..

I have no issues with the PL-12D. For what it is, it does a great job. It sounds perfectly acceptable, is dead easy to maintain and never goes wrong. I quite like the basic appearance, as it has no bling. It's also better made than the competing Trio KD-1030.

Yeh they sound good i bought one used when i was at school. O yeh those Trios are poor. Ill think it over tonight. Just bought an old Akai 'GXC46D' cassette Deck complete with original Dust cover that are usually missing. The Deck needs to match that. The lid on the Pioneer & the Lid on the Akai are no where near a match which will bug me for starters.. ffks its terrible being a nutter.
PL71 would match that tape deck wouldn't it?

I don't know. My advice is forget it, just a load of hassle and expense. Stick some 1970s style wood panels on your streamer thingy.

DD were cack when they came out, Short memories thats the trouble :lol:
You right it is a lot of Hassle & expense but at least its real Hi-Fi not Digital. Ive been listening to CD all day Yawn Yawn albums i know off by heart are just a drag honestly. Wish i was a 100% Audio cassette nut, that would be so easy.

'It always rains on sundays', that's the name of a depressing black and white British film from the 50s, and that's what it feels like these days with everything shut, and now I can't even drink as I'm trying to keep my immune system healthy as possible.

There is no mindset to understand, it's just the way I wrote it. We srarted watching marathon Man together, she thought it was a bit shit and decided to do a bit of gardening instead
As for your gardening workload - I've seen pics of your garden, and nice though it is, it's way smaller than my brother's garden. He lives on his own, works 56 days a week, and still manages to keep on top of it. Maybe you need to swap your kiddies sandcastle bucket for a wheelbarrow, trade in your hairdressers' scissors for some garden shears, and buy a lawnmower :ner:
He somehow found time to install new central heating and two bathrooms there. He does however have a cleaner come in twice a week, the lazy sod :)

My suggestion: Buy a vintage CD player, sell all your vinyl, and use the cash to buy a nice holiday in Skegness for you and Chez when this madness is over. Sounds like a nice break would do you both good :)

My brother's garden won't really be bigger, but has a lot of landscaping, going up to the golf course. The remaining couple of acres are wild woodland, which get no more attention than cutting up the occasional fallen tree. He really hardly stops though and can be tiring to be round.
But not today eh, or yesterday, and not for a while yet - be careful with your answer, I know stuff ;)

I called a halt on the Lent thing (after 3 weeks of zero alcohol) due to the fact that currently there are no masses and the Catholic calendar for Easter has been totally disrupted, plus life's too short, and we might not even be alive by Easter!!:eek:

Keep saying this but no one believes me. Ive had virtually every Turntable within Expense reason. I used to buy decks every 3-4 weeks guaranteed, had two in a week sometimes lol, but very very few i liked. ofc i have fuck all money these days not that i would spend silly money on anything but i also have a style obsession to feed keeping in mind the things i did not like about the past decks. Im not an in depth listener anymore but i can certainly hear the difference between C 'Yawn' D and Vinyl, stick the same cart on two different decks and it will sound the same to me.. Im trying my best to get away from Digital & lock myself into Analogue. Digital is a cop out for easiness, everyone knows that.
Audiophools dont like Japanese gear cos they are blinded by the DIY looking British tripe. I however love old Japanese stuff, even though they designed DD which i loath. I trashed the deck over an argument in which i flew of the handle, obviously was not on a purpose. Well think myself lucky this time, i broke my wrist last time i gave my old B&W 'DM2a' a left hook forgetting theres a Basket & Magnet behind the unit cone :doh:
Actually a Turntable has just come to mind that will match my Sony amp visually. Ill just ave to buy the matching Cassette Deck to go with it. Put the one i just bought away in storage. Ill get sorted im sure of it. im just getting to the stage where im struggling, Stalemate.

I have no such emotional attachment (either way) with any kind of turntable, or any piece of hi-fi equipment or speakers, for that matter. I have my sonic preferences, of course, but nothing deeper than that, as I'm not driven that way. For me, it's ultimately all about the music, not the gear.

Like i said above a good cartridge on two different decks may as well be the same sounding deck to me, i would take preference over the Aesthetics & certain qualities in engineering. ofc Music is more important & the reason i do not give a rats arse about specialist Hi-Fi.
Just understand my Aesthetic obsession is in no way the same motivation as say an Audio Enthusiast being more interested in the gear because its a slightly different mind set. Mine is Era/vintage derived, controlled by obsession & OCD

I totally get the contents of the last paragraph, and that's fine. I have no such connection (or obsession) with the equipment. I buy what I think works, and to an extent looks good to me, then I stick with it and enjoy it, as you well know. A box-swapper I ain't, as I've had the same system for years!:)
I also dislike strobe platters on turntables, but as you know not all Jap D/D decks have them, so if you don't know what exactly it is you loathe, then I can't help you:D

the fear of the Quartz Controller failing. as mentioned the 1210 obsession created a hate complex with me. The quick start is fine but you can get that with a Flywheel TT like a Michell. I would rather have a Physical thing like a belt driving the platter than an electronic circuit., i also prefer mechanics.. nor do i want a wacking great motor under my styli.. This is all underling dislikes from years ago thats just ingrained on me.. I refuse to even give a DD the time of day no matter how great people make out they are. I believe they are not & thats all that really matters to me..
Fair enough, that's a much better explanation of your dislike... I of course disagree, although I understand where you're coming from and accept that some of your criticisms of D/D are valid:)
For me, NO turntable, no amplifier, no speaker - no ANYTHING is perfect, and so if in your head you're trying to achieve some notional concept of 'perfect sound', or way of reproducing recorded music that pacifies your strict proclivities, then you're on a hiding to nothing and forever destined to be disappointed!
Turntables especially though, by dint of how they work (reproduce music), are hugely compromised devices (despite being able to sound great), so I find it more beneficial, and also healthier, to accept their limitations and simply choose one that sonically, to my ears, has the best balance of compromises, and then focus on the music.
In that respect, the limitations of a turntable being controlled by a rubber band/weedy motor is much more obvious to my ears than those created by having a big motor underneath the platter, directly controlling it, particularly when judicious steps have been taken to ameliorate the negative effects as far as possible.
However, it's simply a case of each to his or her own. I think we both still dig vintage idler-driven broadcast T/Ts, especially the ones that were used in American radio stations... Russco - I still lurves ya baby!:eyebrows:

Still love the Sparta 'GT-12' . with Syntec '220' arm. No idea what it sounds like or if it rumbles like a tumble dryer but it looks fantastic. Totally out of my pocket tho..I doubt if i would bother though now.. but it would certainly be a preference over a Garrard or a TD124 Any day.

I just love the controlled and hugely powerful sound of those things, simply taking all forms of music in their stride, as comfortably and effortlessly/unflustered as a car with a big V8 engine handles speed!
*That*, for me, is where it's at musically, with vinyl, and what puts a smile on my face. No audible 'warbling' or wavering, due to speed instability, or lack of 'heft'... Music is DRIVEN along with great pace, authority and purpose:)
What I can't stand are turntables (or for that matter, cartridges) that produce a weedy, lightweight sound, which you feel could break up or lose control at any second. I like SECURITY and STABILITY, with vinyl replay, and when the music demands, I need to feel some proper weight and 'oomph'...
And for me you only get that with idler or direct-driven varieties, or high-mass belt ones with massive platters (fitted with low-compliance cartridges and high-mass arms).

Still love the Sparta 'GT-12' . with Syntec '220' arm. No idea what it sounds like or if it rumbles like a tumble dryer but it looks fantastic. Totally out of my pocket tho..I doubt if i would bother though now.. but it would certainly be a preference over a Garrard or a TD124 Any day.

Sounds like horn speakers. Lack of 'bloom' and slight horn type colouration (as far as I can really tell via my PC speakers :)).

I have no such emotional attachment (either way) with any kind of turntable, or any piece of hi-fi equipment or speakers, for that matter. I have my sonic preferences, of course, but nothing deeper than that, as I'm not driven that way. For me, it's ultimately all about the music, not the gear.

I was wondering just what it is you loathe about DD. Could it not be other parts of those decks you weren't getting on with, which were cancelling to some degree the good work that Direct drive was doing? By which I mean it may not be the actual DD that you weren't liking.
I personally love my Direct Drive TT, and it will go to the grave with me. - I'm certainly no expert, in fact the very opposite, but I love the solid rock-steady presentation, and the absence of faff. Plug 'n' play very important for a numpty like me. :)
Still I suppose we like what we like, like.

Not at all. Each to his or her own, daftee. It's not about about how much your gear costs, but how often you change it or 'fret' over the sound. Too many folks on forums, IME, suffer from audiophile neurosis, going round in circles chasing some sort of 'sound' they'll likely never find, spending fortunes in the process, and *still* aren't happy - and it's not a healthy state of mind to be in.
The point I was making though, is that I don't box-swap or hoard gear (or get all OCD over it), simply because that's not my bag/how I'm wired, and most importantly, I'm happy with what I have, so now I just enjoy music. You love collecting stuff, and that's cool, but that's not me:)

Crikey - we had snow, and sleet and hail and bitting winds yesterday. Today, thankfully, the wind has dropped and quite warm sunshine each time the clouds blow over.
Just shows how weather can vary over quite short distances, although this peninsula does have quite different weather patterns to areas close by. Some evenings we have sat in our back garden (with a glass or two of wine) watching lightening storms either side of us as they follow the path of the Orwell and Stour rivers.

Only one vital post in my life, and it's not had any attention lately :(
I really need to find other ways to exercise, but it's hard with this Crap Weather for March, and I have no interest in any of this Mr Motivator type nonsense. My normal working day would involve an amount of up-and-down ladders, but there's no jobs need done up there, and besides I live in a bungalow with my carer and special needs nurse.
About 6c and cloudy.. Fairly dark today. Don't think it'll rain but it's dampish
