View Full Version : WTD - Tandberg TR-1055 Receiver
Looooooong shot cause I can't remember seeing one of these for sale anywhere else but Scandinavia, the US or Germany......
I'm looking for one of these dual-mono babes to compare against a wonderful 1040 that I've got
Must be in close to mint condition with undamaged wood
Please someone sell or point me in the right direction for one - Mrs isn't interested I either of us visiting Norway!

Well they are the same but the 1040 has no presets.
1055 has 20 watts more than the 1040's 40 watt output.
The 1040 doesn't have enough oomph to rock the speakers I hope to use with it.

PS thanks for the replies guys.
@eldarvanyar: Thanks for the pictures - that example is mighty fine. I had spied that on the shark and initially felt 500 notes was a little too much. However when balanced against the condition and previous sales on the continent, it seems about right. The trouble is getting it here from Finland from a guy that i don't know......don't get me wrong i don't condone ebay but it does provide a level of comfort and recourse. The american one looks good too but i'm unsure if the power can be internally switched from 110v to 230v/240v, and I would prefer not to have further work done to it.
@1968: The 1040 has space on the board to take the additional caps for an upgrade but i wanted to compare the RIAA against the TR-1010 & TR-1040 i've got and i also wanted the ability to pull the preamp and amp jumpers to try it with active speakers.
........the search is on to cure the itch.

Keith: I find it very odd if they use different Phono stages between to two tbh..

Hi 68 i think you're probably right - there'll be no difference between the 1055 and 1040....although my translation of a thread from a norwegian site (i can't believe how sad ive got on this subject!!) suggests there is a difference between the two, but that was subjective......i think.
There's defo a manufacturing difference between the 1010 and 1040 RIAA with big internal differences in various areas including preamp and output stage, etc.
Once i've cleaned and deoxited the heck out of the 1040 i reciently got i'll it and the 1010 up and try them out.

You need a nice pair of the 'Studio Monitor' speakers they made..
I hears very good things about them......WAF precludes that tho......she didn't even like Yamaha ns1000m's I had.
I play the 1040 through p3esr's although it also sounds absurdly good with an old pair of castle severns - great wee floor standers that cost pennies

Are the 3005 more Wifey friendly for you?

Can you describe the sound of the 1040?
Is there a certain Tandberg sound like the Yamaha’s of the 1970s and other makes?
Thanks

Smoothe & Clear
Smoothe & Clear
I'll second that for the 1040.
The earlier 1000 and 1010 were more mellow and closer to valves (apparently a design requirement)
All 1000 series i've experienced until now, and the later 2060 have controlled, well defined, tight bass - never slappy or sloppy.

What’s the difference between the 1000 (1xxx) and 2000 (2xxx) series?
Is one more desirable than the other
Thanks
