Calling All Audionote V2 Arm Users.....Help!!!

I have finally fitted my AN Arm 1 V2 to my Voyd Valdi with much cursing and swearing trying to level the platter
But setting up the arm is puzzling. Given that conventional wisdom says that the armtube should be parallel to the platter.......How is that achieved with the tapered arm tube that the AN V2 now has.? :scratch:
Would a small spirit level on the headshell help?
The anti skate or bias is also vague saying that it should be done by ear??? :scratch:

Any advice greatly appreciated

Looks like a straight tube to me? Parallel to the record surface.

Pictures would help, the old AN arms were modded Rega which of course are tapered tubes. Those little bubble spirit levels come in handy.

Hi Mark......Thanks for the reply. Armtube definitely tapered. Just measured with digital gauge although to be fair not by much.

The tiny spirit levels you mention are ideal for this, i use one when setting up the arm one/three v2.

The hifi news test record bias tracks are handy for this. I err on the side of less weight rather than more. Personally, I find with most medium weight carts the supplied weight is too heavy. So I had a lighter counterweight made up and have never needed to use the original weight which is probably perfect for the heavy IO.

I am using a Denon DL103R which is 8.5 g ? and finally got static balance and set weight at2.4.
The standard counterweight of 164g is pretty much high up the arm stub
Do you think that a heavier weight a la TP SKale as used on the Naim Aro would be better as it would be closer to the pivot?

Can you tell me who made your weight, how heavy and how much?

hi martin,

When I talking about weights I should have said BIAS weight, not counterweight. Very sorry, it was almost midnight so brain not working too well!
However the person who made the bias weight was Steve Foster, Magna Audio on this forum who specialises in fabricating such parts.
Another option is to contact Audio Note who make a heavier counterweight (which I would imagine would suit the heavy IO). My Arm Three was supplied with both the lighter weight and heavier weight , whereas the Arm One I owned only came with the lighter weight.

I have an arm 3 and 1o2. The heavier counterweight from AN is just adequate for the Io2, I imagine perfect for eg. 10-14gm cartridges.
I set up tracking weight with the arm level-ish, then set VTA by ear, it's easy enough. Just set it rather too high then rather too low to calibrate the difference in presentation each achieves, then adjust back and forth in smaller increments until it sounds right and/or you lose interest.. .
Bias can be set with a test lp or by ear, I prefer the test lp which makes it pretty easy.

Thanks for the advice guys. The arm is now set and the spirit level indicate that the back is slightly raised.

Now if I can only get the belt on and get it to stay on.........................:steam::steam::steam:
