Smells like a scam

Was making my dinner today & the Answer Machine came on. It was one of those Automated Robotic voices. She started off by saying £59,99 payment, thanks for using Amazon Prime, do you wish to Continued, or speak to your service manager please press one.

For starters i have never used Prime, I have looked on my account & nothing has been bought at £59.99 plus the fact they do not have my home telephone number.

Um.. Anyone else had any shit like this?

Not the same but I have had a few automated messages about 'your internet provider has found a problem and will be disconnecting you' etc. Obviously I disregard and block.

It is a definite scam. It almost got me they are so slick.
They said I had been charged £59.99 by mistake and needed my details to refund me. They had me download programme on my phone and then asked for my bank details. I do subscribe to Amazon Prime and knew that they had my bank details.
I told them to f**k right off and looked at Google for possible scams and sure enough it was there. They have so far stolen nearly half s million pounds. I was advised to contact my bank.
The fraud department at my bank instantly knew what programme had been installed on my phone. My current bank card was immediately cancelled and I had to run a virus scan to get rid of the programme. However it could not remove it so I had to transfer it my memory card and then destroy the memory card.
I'm normally quite aware of such things, but they caught me on a bad day and as I said they were unbelievably slick and professional.
If they phone you, do what I normally do and waste as much of there time as you can and give them false information.
I've had a couple on the phone for 15-20 minutes and as soon as they click, they just hang up.
By the way the accents were Indian or there abouts.

I have to answer my mobile - it's how my customers and potential customers reach me. I've noticed nuisance callers are using mobile numbers increasingly, but as soon as they ask me if they can speak to "Mr Steven Callygan" (nowhere near the correct pronunciation) I hang up immediately. But by then they've already made me stop what I'm doing :steam:

Got a volume control on the answer phone, can only hear it if im in the living Room. The phone gets switched off after 9:00pm anyway. Only reason i have a mobile if if the Dearest needs me in emergency but other than that i dont even answer that

The one I've had a lot of recently is a message on the answering machine of the home phone querying the "transaction of £600 recently made on your bank account".

I kind of miss the "we hear you've had an accident recently" ones on my mobile - it was fun to string them along for a bit!

i never listen to my answer machine.. no idea how to which suits me. no-one i know in general will phone me on it, and anyone who does that knows me will just try my mobile next.

Mrs P never answers her phone, it's always on silent. If her kids need to reach her they ring me and ask to speak to their mum. Does my head in. And if I need to contact her I call before setting off in the car/van, as I don't have hands free. She calls me back after I've set off. So I pull over and call her back, which often as not she doesn't answer as her phone is still on silent. This does my head in too :(

Same here. Whenever I get calls like that, and it's rare, I love taking the opportunity to verbally abuse them in the rudest, cruellest, most distastefully objectionable and shocking way imaginable - and TRUST ME - I'm *very* fucking good at it...!;)

We've also got Caller ID, but I occasionally get business calls, which can be from anyone, plus if I'm feeling naughty, I enjoy having some fun with the scamming vermin and making them rue the day that they ever DARED to try it on *ME*...:eyebrows:

Best not give them any air time at all, as soon as i hear the delay in anyone speaking on the other end, i just put the phone down, i always assume that if it was someone genuine, they will ring back anyway, or find another way of contacting me !
The lengths that scammers will go these days is very very worrying! :rolleyes:
