View Full Version : Has anyone tried powering their system from a UPS?

As AC mains hum / noise never seems to be 100% curable and there seem to be some pretty high capacity "online" UPS available these days at affordable prices, I got to wondering if that could be an option - effectively running my system "on batteries" for mains-free listening.

Has anyone looked into that and / or tried it?

Cheers,

Steve

What equipment are you using ? because hum/noise shouldn't be a problem.

that would be nice to think but I've never been able to get rid of it, no matter what I read up on or experiment with. I'd rather eliminate it than go the "add something else" (UPS) route.

Turntable: Inspire elevation
Phono: Firebottle Vivant
Arm: Airprodigy linear (https://www.airprodigy.co.uk/)
Cart: Zu Audio DL-103-R
Pre amp: Audio synthesis passion ultimate (passive)
Power amps: Quad IIs (recently serviced at the factory)
Mains conditioning: Isotek Mini sub

My setup has never been entirely free of hum throughout its evolution, no finger can be directly pointed at any of the above individually.

I have an earth-lead joining appropriate components (Isotek > Quads > Vivant) which seemed to improve things slighly. There isn't an earthing option with the arm.
