View Full Version : What SUT and Phono Pre are you using with your DL-103...
...and how close to true DL-103 (or DL-103R) nirvana are you getting?
Anyone using the Bob's Devices Cinemag SUT?
Other details on setups welcome.
I trust you'll go back through various threads here to find your answer :)
The A23 seems to be *the* SUT at anywhere near a sensible price and Marco reports the old Lentek battery head-amp a good and still cheap-used alternative. I've found the Lentek (used with Supex 900E Super and OC9) to be punchy and lively, with loads of gain with the OC9 and no obvious distortion). There's a liveliness/eagerness in the upper mid-lower top which I imagine the 103 would really appreciate.
I have no idea how Denon's own transformers are these days and, of course, there are some awsome concoctions made of snake oil and wound with virgins' hair available at huge money in the far east.
I use WAD stepups into a mm Heed Questar ,I am not sure if these are still available though .

Funnily enough I took delivery of a custom built Cine-Mag with balanced xlr connectors, just last week (2 weeks from ordering to delivery from the US to UK, fantastic service).
Obviously, I'm still getting used to the sound but first impressions are highly positive. Can't comment on how the Cine-Mag sounds compared to any other SUT but I don't think you would be disappointed at all.
Big thumbs up from me to Capt. Bob and his fantastic Devices:).

I use an Auditorium 23 SUT with my Rosewood body mounted DL-103 into a Pure Sound P10 Phono amp & it's a stunning combination! :eyebrows:
Before getting the A23 i used a Denon AU-300LC SUT which also works well, the A23 is quite a large step-up though. (no pun intended )
I have the box, sockets etc ready mounted for the Sowter SUT's I'm hoping to get soon. I only mention them because various loading options are available and/or a model is available with a wide acceptance, which can be fine tuned with resistors across the secondary windings. A OCC wired version is available too for not much more - total cost including sockets and aluminium project case around £150, which is a third of the retail on an A23.
I suspect I'll have to get mine built and then send to Marco for checking..

Thanks for all the input.
Just found a good deal on a lightly used EAR834p Deluxe - it's on the way and I'm very excited. The A23 SUT is a bit dear for my price range at the moment, but I think I can swing the Bob's Devices Cinemag SUT for the DL-103R.
