In the sixties we had a "Corona man" deliver bottles of pop each Saturday. I associate the name with the 1966 World Cup - got a delivery while a match was on, and my dad was too engrossed to notice that Arthur (our budgie) was out of his cage, until the little shite flew out of the door as the pop was coming in. My mum posted an advert at the local paper shop offering a £5 reward. A lot of money in those days. Got him back a week later minus his tail.

We did quite well that year in the football I'm told, so not all bad :)

A rather tenuous Corona-related story, but it's all I have

A rather tenuous Corona-related story, but it's all I haveLol we had a budgie called Arthur too. Green one, and he escaped too. The janitor of the primary school caught it and held it to ransom. He got paid and Arthur returned to find a young blue one in his cage.
Was a bit if a fight and the young one won. He got the high swing

Corona limeade (the one that glowed in the dark like 'Peckham Spring' water) used to bring me out in a rash, didn't stop me drinking it though.

I've forgotten why it was Arthur tbh. My sister named him I think so might have been a pop star of time.. Can't remember tho and I could be wrong re sis.

Poor Artur!

"Bloody hell, I wish I'd stayed put - first the janitor put me in this cage that smelled of sweaty socks, with the bottom of the cage covered in this awful pink sawdust, then I got home to find I'd been replaced with this little blue chav, who'd shit all over my Tidysan! I tried to reason with him and got battered for my troubles. Still, I hear he has a severe cuttlefish allergy so when he eventually drops off his perch he'll have a lot further to fall. I just need to live long enough to see it" :(

When I was a young kid we lived next door to the general stores in our street. Our house was seperated from the shop by an alleyway and a gate led to the yard behind the shop which wasn't difficult to climb over. Headed straight for the wooden crates that held the pop bottles and sneaked out with a bottle of corona cherryade under each arm. Drank both bottles and took the empties into the shop and got the deposits back, which was then spent on sweets. Silly old trout that owned the shop never seemed to add the loss of the full pop bottles to the amount she refunded in deposits. I feel rather guilty about my nefarious activities now though :(

I think Arthur was probably a popular name in the sixties. Ours was named after a white cat who ate his food with his paws off the telly.

I should think so too! You're a bad man

We once had the bright idea of climbing over the wall of a local beer bottling place, nick the empties and take them round the local off licences for refunds. The wall was 8 feet high and topped with broken glass - talk about high risk low reward.

Coppers nabbed us coming back over the wall and thick ears were dished out. Our criminal career ended before it had begun :(

Our blue was called joey.. He liked tea too and soggy digestives mum dipped in tea. Used to sit on her shoulder and talk in her ear etc and watch TV.. Lived for ages.
My dad got him drunk one n year by putting whisky in his water bottle. It just fell of its perch. [emoji23]
