Just released figures for the Extinction Rebellion Rally October 2019 in Central London.

Rubbish collected at the end of the Rally........20 tonnes of rubbish left behind to be collected.

I think I need to revisit their published aims or mission statement.

Based on engaing with XR representatives for debate online and in person on the street, so far they appear to be content with pedaling polemic but not with genuine exchanges. I started a discussion about the US Co2 production with some XR street campaigners and was treated to an enthusiastic exchange of views but things got frosty when I raised a concern about China being numero uno of the world's polluters in respect of Co2. The question of China's lead in producing the world's Co2 and what to do about it simply resulted in my being stonewalled by the group I was talking with. One woman said - 'We're not here to talk to people like you'. Online they are happy if you criticise the UK or the US, but lose interest and cease replying if you mention socialist or developing countries damaging the environment. I was told on FB that I must have realised I'd lost the argument because I was trying to pass the buck onto China. Them rehearsing that mantra does not change the level of China's Co2 output. I've yet to criticise the USA on climate issues to an XRer and be told I was passing the buck. So far my experiences with that outfit are not encouraging - they just seem so narrow in their view of what can be considered real pollution. Personally, I'm becoming more sceptical about the climate change narrative. Nothingto especially to do with XR, who have struck me as being no more than Puritan Zanies demanding a free ride in debates, another one in a long line of history's Doomsday Cults. i might have been unlucky and had contact with people who are not representatove of XR, but what I have read by them suggests otherwise. Nor is it solely because the world's elite is so suspiciously keen to push environmental concerns, but because of reading in an area I thought was far away from todays insubstantial news froth, Ancient and pre-History. It seems catastrophic climate change has been around for a long long time, I mean way before humans were able to have the kind of impact on the world that is claimed now. No cars, no air travel, no factories, no central hearing, no air con, no plastics, and so on. It seems that so many of the things folk enjoy emoting about now - global warming, rising sea levels - can be observed going on througout the earth's history. If suddenly there were no cars [lush, eh?] no airtravel, and so on would climate change halt? Not if the past is an indicator of the earth's climate behaviour. For me the jury is out - for the moment anyway.

The other issue that occured to me was why must Climate Conferences be conducted in a particular place: Madrid, New Dehli, Paris. Why not use video conferencing? The latter would allow debate and voting wothout any delegate travel by car, ship, or plane.

Yeah, according to that article the claims by that MP were denied by the organisers. Now you may say ‘well they would deny it’ but the MP concerned has political baggage to carry and you could just as easily say ‘well she would say that’. In fact, the article is a rather more balanced report than your initial post would suggest.

I committed the cardinal sin of being biased to a certain degree.

I’m too old to give a shit about how extinction will happen to life as we know it on this planet, but it’s inevitable, either from the human race or some sort of catastrophe outside current awareness.

Just my view of course, I think I’m a cynic and a realist ( could be an oxymoron) who cares :peace::wave::drugs:

Trump is good at some things, such as his eschewing of alcohol - I respect him for that.

I think we all have “clues” but they lead us in different directions. I don’t believe anyone actually knows definitively the answers on what may be called Climate Change or Cyclical Change.

I’m not dogmatic on this, it’s my view, hence in my day to day life it’s irrelevant.

If you’re taught from a very young age that black is white and vice versa, insulate them from outside influences and you have indoctrination or brainwashing (Thunderberg springs to mind ) just so very wrong!
