Very windy and quite chilly with it. No need to leave the house today, having a lazy day :)

Similar weather here, plus it's very bright and sunny... Will we get some snow this month? Pretty please, yes....:dummy::dummy:

Lovely in Suffolk - blue skies, very little wind although still a bit frosty this morning for the dog walk.
Actually managed first grass cut of the year yesterday (fair size garden, so will possibly do other half this afternoon). Planning on bike ride to pub this evening - without mudguards as roads are dry for the first time in weeks:)

Well yesterday (Thursday) and the day before I managed to get a flight in on the paramotor. Have been waiting since January 21st for suitable weather, it has been far too windy.
All the paramotor pilots have a close relationship with weather watching, also known as parawaiting.
Unfortunately the windy weather is back for a while, though it is always better when the sun is shining and getting out and about is enjoyable. We had a very good lunch in Kinver at the 'Cafe No. 5'.

Been on some dodgy stuff in my day too. I preferred to build my own tbh. Fell right through one bad build, doing my knee for about 2 years
I also fell through one a few years ago; due to a plank not being properly supported at one end - not as much fun as it sounds :( Resulting in a dodgy shoulder that still wakes me up some nights. Some of the crap we endure to earn a crust eh? Still nobody puts a gun to my head! You're right about putting them up yourself, only way to be sure
Yup, did a bit of training to do steel stuff well. Ali towers are all good and well for light work but steel is better. I used to tie mine in too, not just angle it

When we had a spell of fitting solar PV to roofs a few years ago, my brother sent me on a "Safe working at heights" course in Chesterfield. After I got back he asked me how I got on. I told him it all went a bit over my head. He chucked a wobbler saying that sending me on the course was money down the drain. That's when I learned that my brother had no discernible sense of humour :(
I've been on a few courses over the years, and they are invariably cack - you always get some smartarses who really should be on a more advanced course but would rather slum it with the thicko's diverting the tutor with questions that mean nothing to the rest of us. Still, always came away with a nice travel mug and woolly hat though :)

These days my brother works 3 days a week for British Gas, and their safety procedures and PPE is so over the top, no wonder they are stupidly expensive - someone has to pay for all that nonsense. If I adhered to that level of health and safety, my customers couldn't afford me and would instead go to someone who doesn't mind hanging from gutters by their fingertips :(

When we get their renewal quote, it's always extortionate, so we simply go onto the comparison sites, look for the best deal, and inevitably British Gas end up supplying it, and subsequently we save around £100 on the renewal quote.

They also do a referral where both get £50. referrer and referral.. Ive been with loads of companies and change after a deal ends but ive stuck with these guys..

I switched to Bulb last year and it is costing £70 less a month than I was paying utility warehouse :eek: I asked Bulb a simple question via email about isolating the supply to repair a faulty trip switch which took them over 2 months to reply to, so they gave me a £40 refund to apologise for the delay.
Sounds cool. Do they supply smart meters? Those are essential for us, as we like to 'drill down' into the minutiae of our energy usage.

Yeah, I'm not talking about gas supply, I mean boilers and heating systems. If you ever have to replace your boiler, get a quote from BG, then after you've picked yourself up from the floor try some local independents. The cost difference would probably buy you a spare boiler, with enough left over for a nice weekend away :)

Managed to get all the logs and coal in from the store we will need for today, without getting too soaked!! Defo a day for staying at home huddled in front of a nice cosy fire:)

60 to 70 miles an hour winds, maybe hitting 80, a day to stay inside and hope everything survives.
base wind is about 30mph, with gusts over 50 here. was calm overnight but built up in early morning(7am) no follow this pattern i think for a while.

We burn smokeless coal and seasoned hardwood logs. Never been a problem here, and I don't foresee one either:)

Yeah, a wee bit windy on the west coast today
Well, tree down took out a power line to the village just after 9am and it has just come back on ten minutes ago. We had to take the kids to a play centre, then to see Nannie and Granddad then onto one of our favourite village pubs where they were still on the grid for dinner. Back home, couldn’t boil the kettle so had to open some wine (not for the kids of course!) and then played board games by torchlight and listened to the radio. Hardly any online activity as I wanted to preserve iPad and phone batteries, and no signal anyway.
To be honest I was a bit disappointed when the power came back on! #BestSundayEver!
Only downside is that we had our shopping delivered late yesterday and not sure if we can risk the meat and fish (typically we were going to have steak tonight) but the wind doesn’t seem to have done any damage so far - though it has picked up again.

Going home from Preston yesterday. we went via Walton le dale to see what the River Ribble was like. Gone over the banks there, leaving about one square mile of valley floor under water. Never seen it that bad, and that part of the trip took us an extra hour as the road was partly flooded. Must have got even worse as that route closed last night. Getting into Preston this morning will be chaos, that was a major route :(

At our last house in the town we had 3 power cuts in 15 years. None lasted very long. Yesterday's was the 4th since we moved to the country 4 months ago! Problem is that all the power lines are overhead, so it only takes a tree to fall on one... Still, gave us the opportunity to stock up on emergency lights and stuff, ready for the next one!

Dark and cold, but somehow also cosy and comforting! Love going for walks when it's like that. That's why I like the snow: to get that sort of comforting 'warm glow', and there's nothing else like it - especially when you come home all wet and cold, and warm up and dry off in front of a roaring log fire!:)

Maybe it looks great, but since I walk to the office and back every day (it’s an 8km round trip) I was less than thrilled :)
Keeps you fit though, Pavel, and if you wrap up warm, then you should be fine. Personally, I'd rather that than doing the same walk during the summer in the sweltering heat, and arriving at work, soaked in sweat (as I'd be).
My daily power-walks are roughly the same distance, although admittedly I don't have to go to work afterwards...

I agree Marco, in fact I have always preferred to walk whenever possible and I believe this is why I still wear jeans the same size as in high school!

Yup, incompetent assholes who shouldn't have a driving license. I've always said that they should make driving on ice or snow part of the test (plus give learners some motorway experience). It's too bloody easy to pass a driving test, and so all the useless tossers end up on our roads!:doh:

You should be happy then at that state of affairs. I suspect we've had our 'snow' now for this year. I don't count it as 'propa' unless there's at least a foot of it on the ground. I love being 'snowed in' though, as we were about 5 years ago:)
Anyway, it's a lovely crisp, fresh and sunny winter's day here in Wrexham, with hardly a cloud in the sky. Perfect walking weather! So I'll be going for a nice one around the local park later. It's always good to get some fresh air in your lungs - it's good for the soul and makes you feel alive!:cool:

Agree about motorway driving on test, but in ice and snow? That's just crazy talk! Unless you can make working a five day year with the other 300 days unpaid for the hundreds of thousands of examiners needed for that five day test period somehow worth their effort. And can you imagine what the roads would be like during that week-long test fest? I for one wouldn't be leaving the house :(

Plus, I'd also include having some knowledge of basic mechanics, such as where the oil, water and coolant goes, etc, as most don't have a clue. That would soon weed out the hopeless idiots who shouldn't be behind the wheel of a car!;)

Having an off-road component to the lessons and test (on a skid pan for safety) would be a good thing. Oil, water, coolant, tyre pressures - Anita takes care of that stuff, and she's quite vigilant about that sort of thing :)
Yeah, didn't you say she was a bus driver once or something like that? So I'm not surprised she's vigilant:)
But yes, I'm glad you agree that the proposals I suggested would work and help increase the standards of driving.

All drivers will have a "first time on motorway" at some point, better this is done under qualified supervision. Better than having than kids jumping on m-ways after 12 months of forgetting what they learned, 12 months of thinking they're invincible, and 12 months of showing off to their mates and generally being a knobhead :(
Weather has taken on a bit of a lull.. Temporary of course as another storm is coming in.. only 3/4c but wind is down to single figures..
Will try and get out as ive a few things to do. Scooter battery is all charged and warm as its in house. Just gotta try and get it out to car..lol

Yes indeed when we owned a sailing boat we saw many Navy ships in the Solent... the best was the huge US aircraft carrier, can't remember which one it was .. it was huge and took an age to sail past... their 'security' ship tracking us all the way :eyebrows:

As the old Scandinavian saying goes “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes” - well, storm Dennis has done his best but we won’t let him ruin our now traditional February long weekend in the Capital. Typical that last year the sun was shining when we did the lower decks of HMS Belfast, but returning to complete the upper decks it is blowing a hoolie and persisting it down. Still, this is a must-do visit if you haven’t been. Mostly sunny all day. Of course, when I went out to have my lunch, it immediately started raining and then we had about 20 minutes of hailstorm, but then it cleared up again. Very clear at the moment with Venus shining brightly.
Another two weeks and we should be out of the worst of it. Not the rain though of course, that's pretty much a constant round here. That summer before last where it didn't rain at all for four weeks freaked me out a bit. Not used to it.

Yeah, we wanted to explore the menu and try a selection of things, given that what we didn't eat could be taken home in a 'doggy bag' and enjoyed later. Plus the angle of the camera makes the tiffin boxes (food containers) look much bigger than they were:)
Fabulous (genuinely Indian) food though, and *so* different from the standard (rather unadventurous/uninspiring) 'made for the British palate' cack you normally find in 'Indian' restaurants.

Haha, when I read earlier in the thread that you’d gone to Mowgli’s I was just about to recommend the Yoghurt Chat Bomb when I saw this! [emoji4]. Went there a while back on a reunion with my old school friends and had a great time. Brilliant place. Another recommendation is Tiger Rock (another brilliant street food place). There are a couple, we went to the one opposite the Beatles hotel on North John St.

Lol - nice one, Tony! Yeah, there are loads of 'street food' places like that in Liverpool, such as Turkish and Brazilian, and of course there's Chinatown, the oldest in Britain. I love UK cities with a real cosmopolitan vibe:)

Got gardeners in at the moment with chainsaws trimming down the huge laurel trees, forming the perimeter of our garden... It's a job we've been meaning to do for ages, and which will allow much more light into the garden, subsequently enabling us to grow some produce in that area, which will be turned into a vegetable patch.
Going to be getting some chickens too (for fresh eggs), and create a chicken run, which will be one of our (many) projects for the summer!:cool:

Just cos you can't see them doesn't mean they're not there. They will be in one of the parked cars you spoke of, keeping out of the rain. you didn't see them because they saw you first and ducked down just in case you wanted them for something ;)
