View Full Version : Your Most Uplifting Tracks... Ever!
Been a while/years since I did one of these, (they usually revolve around obscure instruments, so count your blessings! ;) ) but this time I'm after your favourite uplifting tracks. Tracks that no matter how much of a grumpy barsteward you are, or if you are in a really foul mood you play and can't help but smile, if even only to yourself...
No limits on how many you want to suggest, I'm sure we've all got loads of songs we know and love, but I'll kick off with just one - Queen and Don't Stop Me Now - impossible not to smile after playing that, right? Come on, give me your happy and I'll put them into a killer playlist! :)
Me and Julio down by the school yard. Paul Simon. Has great rhythm.

1. Absolute Beginners - David Bowie
2. The Happening - The Supremes
3, Right Said Fred - Bernard Cribbins
Well you did ask :)
Good shout there Neil, LOVE that track. I think anyone would struggle to be miserable listening to Bernard Cribbins, Ste! Not sure I know that Supremes track, will have to give it a listen. Need a few more please folks to justify a playlist. :)

Who said the perfect pop song does not exist. Well it does & nothing bettered it yet thats because it is the greatest pop song ever created
The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star. Puts me in a good mood everytime..
Not sure what you mean about uplifting because my idea & say someone that goes to big night clubs in Ibiza have a different idea about the definition.

That is a top shout - what a track, and Trevor Horn is a genius!
I see what you mean about uplifting - I guess anything that makes you smile. Pretty much everything on the Kevin and Perry Go Large soundtrack would work for either of your scenarios!

Trevor Horn was a genius.. Grace Jones, Frankie goes To Hollywood, Seal, Art of Noise, YES etc etc
A very underrated band was The Art of Noise.

Yeah a genius alright - took a song (Slave To The Rhythm) and made a whole album of its remixes. I still play it regularly, and I really must get me a newer less worn-out copy :)

Aye. Dave Gilmour's guitar parts were sampled on that album.. We sold quite a few of that album in the record shop back in the 80's ZTT Records was mega popular

B-52s Rock lobster. Always brings a smile :)
A big +1 for Buggles!
I can't get away from this one:

Glass Candy - Warm in Winter
Now, I don't think this is going to be to everyone's taste. But to me it seems to include all the good things from disco and synthpop and I just can't listen to this on low volume...or sit still when it comes on.
And talking of disco:

Hi ALex, its the LP name and last song on the LP, and the most upbeat/uplifting one! It really is feckin awesome, weird LP though, with one lyric advising you to chew your food well amongst other things!
The Renegade snares remix really needs to be heard on a proper stereo otherwise it sounds thin, and you won't get it.

Right, found the Horace Silver one, but not the Foul Play remix - added the original version as the best alternative. :)

Lol - not sure you'd have liked some of it!:D
I'll pop some more of my favs on later. The key for me is in the word "uplifting", and for me that means music that not only makes me smile, but that makes me want to get up and dance!
Plus also music that evokes happy memories from my yoof..... And that's why some of it may fall under the category of 'guilty pleasures'!!:eyebrows:
Marco.
makes me smile
That's the key thing for me, and yes, some may be a bit cheesy, but life's too short to worry about what anyone else thinks, and also some great "kitchen disco" choons there Marco, I'll test them on the kids this week!
Songs which create that 'feel good factor' is what it's all about, Alex:)
Too many people, especially on forums, intellectualise music/over-analyse it to death, to the point of spoiling what some it is supposed to be about - just a damn good choon ta groove to!:eyebrows:
Probably because most 'hi-fi folk' I've met have two left feet, are too bloody stiff, and have no sense of rhythm or ability to MOVE, in order to be able to DANCE....:D
...which is probably why disco (a perfectly valid and credible genre of music in its own right) is rarely discussed, and indeed often rather snootily frowned upon;)
FUCK THAT... Ya gots ta have some FUN in ya life!!:dance:
Yeah mate, let me know if any of those choons get the kids dancin' around the kitchen - and/or you, lol.... MORE 'cheesy choons' to follow!!
Marco.
Amen to all that - I'll report back! Meanwhile, in Discoville, possibly the best track ever to put a smile on your face with the legend that is Nile Rodgers... :)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXgSHL7efKg
Ha - I was going to include that one in yesterday's selection, but thought it'd be too 'obvious'! Enjoy:)
Marco.
Here's a quickie, to wrap your ears around and get ya booty swinging, until I finish what I'm doing... Doubt you'll know the track, as the band in question, Imagination, were better known for other tracks, and which were big hits in the early 80s, such as 'Just an Illusion' and 'Body Talk' [wot a choon to shag to, btw;)].
However, just listen to the truly soulful melodies, the 'hook' of the chorus, and the mesmerising tinkle of that synth-piano, when it comes in... What makes it rather unique too is the video someone's uploaded to accompany the track, and the rather novel depiction of JT 'doing his thang' to it (on a loop)... Quality!:D
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIdrOQoKTr8&feature=emb_rel_end
Used to always play this track in my bedroom as a teenager before going out to a party or meeting up with my girlfriend. Turn up LOUD, and I bet it makes ya SMILE!:)
Marco.
Oh yes! But "Just an Illusion" is going in there too! :)
Thought it might:eyebrows:
I think I've got your 'vibe' now, so should be able to hit the spot with some more!
Marco.
Ok, since we've gone this far down 'Cheddar Gorge' [lol], ya gots ta do some KAJA...

Next up, arguably one of the best pop music videos ever made [you gotta let your kids watch this], and a KILLER track from the BAD album, Speed Demon, with Jackson at the peak of his powers...
Track starts at 4.22 - TURN UP *LOUD*, as the bass line is almost EDIBLE, lol! And the sound quality simply STUNNING:eek:
https://youtu.be/l039y9FaIjc
And lastly, the opposite of uplifting, but arguably the most touching, soulful, poignant and beautiful song Michael Jackson ever sung or wrote.. I give you the [little known] but simply mesmerising and sensational 'Little Susie' - just listen to THAT extraordinary voice...with the majestic Pie Jesu as an intro:

No worries, mate, Hope you like them. Most of my favourite 'uplifting tracks' come from the late 70s, and 80s, as for me that's when life was most fun as a youngster, so my choices are largely fuelled by nostalgia! If you think some of them are crap though, don't be afraid to say, and not put them on your playlist!:D
