Not a rivetting watch, and I'm surprised he suggested improving the cart. before arm and deck. I've always believed that (a) the arm is paramount (assuming the deck is adequate), and (b) arm and cart, must be synergistic as far as mass etc. goes. A low-end cart in a high-end arm will, i.m.o., outperform a high-end cart. in a low-end arm. Logical, surely?

That's not quite what he said though, Mike. He said that in *some* circumstances improving the cartridge can be beneficial, but otherwise the tonearm is more important:)

I also agree with Mark and you, in that improving the tonearm should come before the cartridge, but nothing in audio is black and white.

Well, my tonearm is black and aluminium. Is that close ?:lol: I obviously didn't listen intently enough but I got the impression that he'd put cart. before horse (sorry, arm) anytime, which did surprise me.

Well, what can I say (that's printable). Not that I quite understand by price matching (who mentioned that?) and level matching unless all the facets of cart./arm matching which I've more or less picked up over the decades is a load of tripe (received wisdom tripe, that is).:)

I liked it, and completely agree with him. In essence, there is no one golden nirvana, nothing is perfect and everyone is listening for something different :)
