People that refuse to use buses.. Now i know that inner city transport can be a nightmare where outter city are less busy, However the City busses are more than regular.. We have a car but i use the bus a lot even though i spend as much on fares each week as i do on petrol!

What about if you just prefer driving? It's not a case of refusing to use buses, simply a preference. Plus, it depends on where you're going and how good the return service might be in outlying areas, if going by bus!:)

Buses & trains are free for me (60+ Oyster) so using public transport to head into London is a no brainer.

Cousin's down from Scotland for a few days & we have a boozy itinerary planned so I'll use the oyster card for local trains/buses (pub crawl round Brentwood tomorrow, starting at the Brewery Tap about midday if anyone's in the area  )

I think a lot is its a bit below them to take a bus.. Same goes for taking the child to school but live a stones throw away.. I know at least three people on our road that do just that.

What ever no one seems to be wanting to do the enviroment any good..

Not round here and that plus the traffic congestion means it's quicker to walk.

I wonder about travelling on any sort of public transport and the inherent problem of contracting any bugs, germs, infections etc. that may be around?

What is the cost to Companies from days off work by employees through transmitted coughs, colds, influenza etc.

Then there may be the on cost to the NHS.

I refrain from any sort of public transport, do I think it’s below me....probably, do I think in the past when circumstances forced me to did I find it was overcrowded, dirty and smelly.......yes!

I have a friend who works on buses in the West Midlands and the stories he tells of finding people urinating and doing other bodily functions on the bus seats scares the hell out of me thinking what could be contracted. I’m sure it’s not area limited. Stabbings and assaults are commonplace.

I’ll sit in my controlled safe space travelling where and when I want through filtered, air conditioned bliss.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I've nothing against buses. I just prefer cars, and I like being able to come and go as I please without relying on timetables. The environment point is relevant though, but these days I hardly use the car. Del can walk to her work and I do no more than about 30 miles a week:)

If here's the place to belly ache ........ people who put their feet on the seats on the train. I've seen dirty feet firmly planted, wet feet on a soggy rainy day, you name it, does my head in.

No wonder when you board the train the seats are dusty and mucky - inconsiderate, selfish and shows a distinct lack of social skills / breeding :steam:

Women using buses, cos they wait until they get on to find their change. Drivers who wait at some stops, slow drivers, God I hate them, in fact I hate the bus, and only use it when it rains, otherwise I walk everywhere locally with my pooch.

Anita used to drive for Stagecoach, did it for about 5 years. As her spouse I got to travel for free, and in all that time I used took the bus exactly once. I have never encountered such a concentration of not-rights outside of a Sports Direct or Bright House store - the language was atrocious, especially the blokes, and the whole bus stank of weed. I felt like I was on a day drip to a recording for the Jeremy Kyle Show.

Of course this makes me a snob, but if a thick northern pleb like me finds bus travel to be beneath him, just shows how bad buses have got :( Imagine what it must be like dealing with this every day for a living, I amazed Mrs. P lasted 5 years

Anyway most local journeys made by car can be done quicker than I can walk to the nearest bus stop, so no brainer really.

Lol... Is it really that bad in buses where you are? Last time I was on one (an Arriva bus from Wrexham to Chester) it was spotlessly clean, well lit, had sockets to plug in laptops, etc, and free Wi-Fi, much like trains, and pretty comfortable - and the people on them were either listening to music on their earbuds, on their phones, or just sitting in silence minding their own business.

No complaints here either. I readily use buses both locally and in London. They are clean and frequent (and for me free); as are the trains on the London Underground and Overground.

I use the local buses because parking is a pain in town, apart from the larger supermarkets.

Too many cars on the the Road, im all for big hike on Car Taxes & More double yellows + Pay parking in every conceivable place possible with giant naughty parking fines.. But care must be taken as big shopping complexes have free parking which can effect small town shopping.

Thinking about car parking in hospitals, we now have to pay for being ill. I know they have special rates and exceptions, it’s the principle I disagree with.

Hospitals seem to be unsure of whether they either outsource this and make no money or they couldn’t continue without the added funds it generates.

If this is the scenario they want to be in then why should our blood be free? Should it not be as in other countries, and have to be paid for? The rarer the blood type the more money per pint.

I understand that blood donation is a good thing, but surely it should be quid pro quo.

When my son (who has a rare blood type) arrived 10 minutes late for his regular donation they told him he was too late and they turned him away. Needless to say he doesn’t give blood anymore!

This seems like an "I'm alright, Jack" approach. Having said (or at least written) that, I'm in a not dissimilar situation. I suspect where you are, which is an area I know a little, there aren't too many buses in any case, so you may "have an excuse ...". There's nowhere I can realistically get to by bus now without at least a 4 mile walk or cycle ride, though we can go via train and bus to Edinburgh or Glasgow - once we have got to the station which is about 4 miles away. Being ancient and decrepit, we can go on the bus for free - though I'not sure we actually should have it as a freebie, but there it is. In fact, one of the buses actually has a biscuit, choc bar, and tea and coffee service, and when I asked about paying, I was told it was included in the "price". However we do pay council tax.

I'm sceptical about work - always have been. There was a study/analysis done many years ago - I think by someone called Dreyfus, which suggested that only about 10% of a society actually needed to work in order to provide essential services. I suspect the proportion is lower now - with automation, and currently (until the oil runs out) use of considerable amounts of energy.

Actually work does provide a social function, which is OK, and I have nothing against that, but the idea that people "have to get to work" is rubbish. They do "have to" because our society in the UK "makes" them. If we were more chilled out then it would not be the social imperative which it seems to be.
A lot of this is perhaps because "the State" doesn't want people doing nothing, and causing trouble. Also, if a significant part of the population are bogged down in traffic jams, and filling their time away from home each day, apart from keeping them more or less sane, it does reduce the opportunities for those people to cause other problems - apart from ruining the environment and increasing the CO2 equivalent releases into the atmosphere.

Cities are OK when they work well, and transport within them can be really good. Unfortunately not too many cities are like that now. London is totally clogged up, so it would be stupid to drive anywhere within 10-15 miles of it. Some other cities, such as Liverpool, Manchester and Sheffield got trashed by Mrs T's dislike of public transport, which led to changes in fare structures, so people now don't travel on buses, but it actually takes longer to get anywhere than it did 50 years ago.

I don’t need or want an excuse, it’s my thought and my choice, I welcome any other views. I do think that fair is fair and various authorities are taking the piss. The older I get the more I don’t accept phrases such as “ we’ll do a lessons learnt”, although nobody is responsible. NHS “The population is getting older” shit makes my blood boil, it’s a management responsibility, if you can’t make simple decisions and see trends piss off and do a job your capable of.

I’ll mention again various organisations don’t need money thrown at them. If your processes and systems are ancient and about to suffer catastrophic failure get off the pot.

I’m ranting, the unfairness of stuff gets to me.

HS2 needs to publish fares as it’s just a sop for Government to say we have high speed trains. We can then compare say France’s TGV fares, Paris to Tours some 200 kilometres can be as low as 16€. I’ll bet us minions won’t be able to afford to travel on HS2.

HS2 i too risky financially, our routes & tracks need upgrading but its not about the rolling stock with this country because the HST was the best thing British rail introduced & its still running without problems for nearly 45 years, well apart from the odd issue like Axle Box fracture which was quickly sorted. The APT however was axed, it lasted about 5 years ish even though it has flashy things like tilting suspension & Hydrokenetic braking which was just trouble waiting to happen, HST was far simpler .. The reason they got shut of the APT & kept the HST due to costs.. Whats changes to say this country seems to be in dire straits.

Stop wasting money & just maintain & upgrade the whole network & its running i say. If the trains were efficiently run, with more Rolling stock per service it would be ok cos everytime you see moaning on the TV its about cramped condition, not enough seats, prices going up, delays.. ffks the prices will certainly go up to cover 32 Mill..

tbh i dont think i would want to be on a train travelling that at 250mph, not that i ever think it will reach that

A mention on £88 Million is very scary.. Cut the losses & spend the rest on a netwoork upgrade & additional Rolling stock.. You would be able to hike the speed ability with the HST which was & i think still is the fastest Diesel loco. Im sure the company who now owns Paxman can rebuild/Service those engines..

Yeah it would definitely be more than 88 million. I think the Millennium Tent in London was about ten times that, and that was 20 years ago. In any case the money would be better spent doing up what we already have.

That's why I think it will go ahead regardless. Good money after bad really but that's how it goes.

It makes sense in a big country with hundreds of miles between cities, like in China or even on mainland Europe. But in the UK we don't have those distances. No point in a train that can get up to 200 miles an hour when it has to stop every fifteen minutes to let people on and off. The problem with a fast train that only connects two distant points is that it is useless to everyone living between those points. In a large, mostly rural country that is hardly anyone, in the UK it is millions of people.

HMG is seemingly taking a typically London oriented attitude in this - so it's no wonder that people in some of the intermediate or remoter peripheries of the country feel the way they do. OTOH, it may also be appreciated by some, as it means that they might be able to get on with their lives without worrying so much about the antics of those who purport to "run" the country. However some will feel very disadvantaged.

Another possibility is that some in government or the civil service actually want the project to fail, or be drawn out as long as possible for various reasons.

Worst of all are the big-arsed overeaters, who not only move around at half speed, but also rock from side to side like a faulty Weeble, making it impossible to get by. They also have bugger all peripheral vision, either that or they just don't give a shit.

The supermarkets should be encouraging them to get a grip by forcing them to use special trolleys fitted with wing mirrors and indicators, and something that bleeps loudly if they try to reverse, but they won't because that would alienate their biggest (literally) customers :(

I usually find pointing them in the direction of the diet-foods isle ensures a rapid departure!;)

Marco.

Well what passes for "rapid" in Fatworld. It's not like they don't get any encouragement, the aisle-space around the products at our Morrisons' fruit & veg area would allow two wide loads to pass with ease :)

Maybe greatly reducing the aisle width round the biscuits and cake areas would be helpful.

Complete idiot zombies/non-entities. They need a right good slap, as does anyone who's *so obsessed* with their smartphones. But the arsewipes who use them like that when driving need locked up for 6 months and banned for 2 years, phones confiscated, plus forced to attend a course of how to behave like a sentient human being, as opposed to a brainwashed robot.

Marco.

I know the laws have got tougher, and some are getting the message, but for some nothing short of vehicular death will stop them. Which I'm fine with, it's the innocents that get caught up in it I feel sorry for :(

Indeed... A cull on all the iZombie morons would be very desirable. How would you suggest it should be organised?:eyebrows:

Although I'd love to know *exactly* what breeds them in the first place......

And if the store sells clothes, keep the 'females', with arses the size of buses, WELL away from the leggings!!:doh:

Problem is with the leggings' material - they're just too stretchy, enabling anyone to fit into them. Talk about putting ten pounds of shit into a five pound bag :( I wonder if a device could be fitted into the waistband, which bleeps loudly when they are stretched past a certain point. The embarrassment of walking round in bleeping leggings may encourage these chunky gals to make better wardrobe choices.

I would much rather have a gal with a bit of meat on the bones than these woman that resemble skeletons who think they are so hot, no thanks! Certainly there are also plenty of over weight, slobby guys out there as well! Usually in their nasty stinky sweatpants. Goes all ways I guess.

The term "a happy medium" here seems apt;)

'Chunky' is fine, outright obese isn't, male or female.

Oh yes, completely agree, "fit-fat" is fine, but I was on about the super-wide loads that grace(?) our supermarkets, the ones with their very own post code, who regularly feature in Channel 5 documentaries

Yeah I know the type, and it's gross. I hate 'stick-insects' though, and find them distinctly unattractive/unfeminine... Curves are where it's at! Del's only a size 8/10, but she still has curves. The 'boney' look is just as ugly as the obese one!

Only size 8-10? How on earth do you manage to fit into her clothes?

You guys are hilarious! I always tease my wife about wearing her split crotch panties the wrong way around. Of course I just get the “look”, and it isn’t the look of love. Sigh, can’t a guy have fun?

Don't like split crotch panties. It just doesn't feel right having yer tackle hanging out like that. Mind you, a split crotch gimp suit can work, especially with a sporran. :D

And what are those bras with nipple holes all about? They chafe me terribly!
