I bought another of these the other day. A live album (CD) with applause that sizzles and hisses like extremely bad digital de-noising artefacts.
The album in question was Laura Nyro's 'Live In Japan' recorded 1994, released 2003.
This affect also makes the Rhino CD boxset of the Monterey Pop Festival unlistenable, IMO.
I've tried the discs on different machines, even downloaded lossless rips from elsewhere for comparison, and no joy. Very frustrating. I don't know how they could pass basic quality control.
Has anyone else had this experience on other releases, and what causes it (if it's not bad digital de-noising artefacts?).
