Vintage Audio Cassettes

Anyone know how much Fuji FR- I Super Cassettes tend to go for when they surface..

I know you might be saying yeh ok Type I but these were no normal Type I.. I actually thought they were one of the best blanks ever made back in the 80's..

I am curious how they have stood the test of time . Was it the content that deteriorated or the tape itself?

You lost me Anto regarding deterioration!

I once tested one of these they were amazing in the fact that you could record at a far higher lever than you could a general Type 1 before overload distortion & tape hiss was really low without NR..

The issues i generally have with tapes are

Type 1: Good bass but a bit dull elsewhere
Type 2: Not so good bass as Type 1 but elsewhere better
Type 3: Well pretend never existed
Type 4: Seems too bright and unbalanced to my ears..

Those Fugi FR-1S' gave me the best of Type 1&2 all packed into one..

Have you got a TDK MA-R or MA-XG? Don't really need one; just always fancied owning one!

Those Die-cast 'MA-R' Metals from the 80's were awesome, mega quiet on wind.. i detected no difference in sound from the standard 'MA'.. I bought one of those Heavy metals i think they were about a fiver.. NOS are just crazy money.. What i loved most about them were the little green Record protection tabs that you could just remove & replace.

I have a few of the MA-R metal-bodied cassettes. Wish I had bought more at the time, they were perfect. I even had my Nakamichi cassette machine calibrated by B&W for the MA-Rs.

Nowadays I don't use cassette, but may have a few unused TDK 'D90's kicking around somewhere. I'll see if I can fish them out.

Always bought the TDK SA 90 chrome, back in the day, really liked them.

Hated ferri-chrome tapes of any description. Only ever used Type I and Type IV.

I have two TDK SA90 & four Maxell UR90.
There may be a few more.

The 'SA' first appeared in the mid 70's, the 'SA-X' late 70's..

I have bought some used TDK SA-C90 properly stored. Quite good when re-record them.

Lovely. I don't remember seeing Denon cassettes back in the day.

The majority of mine are TDK AD-90s.

The great thing about blank cassettes was that on long journeys you'd thoroughly immerse yourself in an album, due to only having two albums per cassette. With digital, people just flit from selection to selection as if music is merely a Various Artists experience.
