View Full Version : Hogmanay Celebrations - bringing in 2020!!
So folks, what are your plans for tonight and tomorrow - doing anything exciting?:)
We're having a Hogmanay party at our place, with one of our neighbours coming round with his wife, and Del's invited some of her friends from work for drinkies and nibbles, so I'll serving Champagne and cocktails all night to a load of pissed young(ish) women!!:D So we'll see how that pans out...:eyebrows:
Then tomorrow I've got my dad and some other friends coming round for lunch, and Del's doing a lovely Christmas ham: https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/ham_glazed_with_cherries_83650 and various other bits and pieces, including red wine-poached apples stuffed with blue cheese, for starters: https://catherinefulvio.com/recipes/102-red-wine-poached-apples-stuffed-with-blue-cheese.html, and a fresh lemon posset for dessert, accompanied as usual by my expertly selected wines!;)
Should be fun... Anyway, I won't be on here later, so would just like to take this opportunity to wish all AoS members, including all the mods, who do lots of invaluable work behind the scenes, entirely voluntary [thanks guys - it's always much appreciated] and their families a very Happy New Year and a healthy and prosperous 2020!!

Dont expect to see anyone, so will likely go to bed..
At some point someone will kick me awake and tell me to go to bed because they can't hear the fireworks for my snoring...
Around midnight is my least favourite time, replying to all the happy new year/happy birthday texts is a right chore, and I do try my best not to look like a miserable old git :(
In Edinburgh.
mobbed!
Happy 2020 Marco, Lang May yer ‘lum reek...and may all your problems be little ones.
Warm greets to all other AOS Peeps, have a good’ un.
Used to go to or have parties. But it's been long since abandoned.
Very few around here have any now. There will be big ones in the cities as per.. Weather will be fine so princess St etc will be inundated, like George sq.
Our town has a firework display usually. I can see it from my house and hear it lol

Working on New Year's Day? What a nightmare. She has my sympathy... I doubt I'll surface until at least 11am!!
Marco.
Next year Amigo...
Standing among rowdy, unruly crowds with folk pishing down your leg... Feck that for a gem o' sojjies!:nono::D
I prefer relaxing in my own environment, with folk I like and can boot out when I get fed up with them!;) Anyway, have a good one Gaz, whatever you're doing:cool:

Thanks Man,
Up to 300+hp last Dyno, just doing her thing, delivering off the scale “smiles per gallon” (and under 20 mpg!)
And she’s Italian (If you excuse the GM tinkering!)
Quality, dude. Sounds impressive! You should talk about it more on the car thread, and post some pics!

Plus, isn't this the night that Anita has you on a 'promise'? Just the once, mind, and the other 364 days it's getting jiggy with 5-finger shuffles!:D

Hogmanay
Not Scottish so don't do that!
Went out with the wife around 3pm and had a few drinks at a few new bars near home.
Came back and had a M&S curry and nibbles then sat outside for a few hours and had a burn..........
Now in the house and will have a few beers (and nibbles) and watch Jools Holland and see what he has on (if anything like the series this year then will turn off).
My kids out and not back till next year - those were the days :D
Happy New Year Everyone you old buggers !
I hate New Year actually , never did get the hype for it , and if the f****ers down the road keep letting off fireworks they might find out what a burnt arse feels like !!! :D
Just back from a do at the local British legion club, very enjoyable.
Happy new year/decade all

Merry New Year folks..
Had enough beer & whisky for the time being; on to clean living, heavy stone lifting and 6 weeks of living the dream before I fall back into my old ways :D

No Romanians around here ( give it time though ) but still plenty noisy last night. Once again failed to watch the fireworks live from primrose hill, Hampstead heath !
Maybe one year might brave the elements, but its sooo much easier to put the tv on i m afraid. HAPPY new year.

Some quick snaps of munchies enjoyed today with some friends and my dad... Poached apples in red wine with blue cheese/crème fraîche and chives, topped with toasted hazelnuts and a red wine jus:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/xq90/923/Y6J4PG.jpg
Followed by all sorts of scran too numerous to mention (at the forefront is some stuffed baked courgettes with spinach and ricotta in a homemade tomato sauce, with cauliflower cheese behind it):

Nice - a pretty comprehensive spread, even a picky old git like me could find something edible there :) Why is it so dark? Could you not have waited for the sun to come up before starting? Or do you keep the curtains shut against the prying eyes of the starving Wrexham urchins?
Lol... By that stage it was about 6pm at night! We started eating at 4pm, and at this time of year even then it's pretty dark, so nothing unusual:)

Is the geezer with the beard on 'Just Eat' ordering a takeaway? :D
Only joking, fab spread as always Marco.

Silly me! I was thinking lunch would be a bit earlier than that. If I was there I would have chewed the corners off your table by 4pm :D
Lol... Given that the previous night's Hogmanay party didn't end until nearly 4am, there was no chance we were going to be eating at midday!;)
Marco.
Sorry, missed this...
