As someone who was once a reasonably accomplished 35mm film photographer (if I do say so myself) I do miss it, and all my efforts seem to go on taking picks of my little 'un these days. I'll give it a look - but best of luck with it Hamish. [dad mode on]The fact that unlike so many other "youngsters" you get off your arse and make things happen will stand you in good stead[/dad mode off]

PS - your header photo reminds me of this album - give it a listen - one of my favourite albums of recent years:

i kinda always put you in the younger members here... i mean whats marco 65 maybe i think neil must be in his early 70's .... maybe i just get that impresion because they live in the last century where streaming music was a crazy dream :lolsign:

Good Luck Hamish , my photos are only for slide shows for my club winter night meetings and shot with a Nikon D50, never have got the hand of all the number things on the lense, just set on auto and point and shoot for me

Good looking forum Hamish! Best of luck from me. I'm no photographer myself, but I hope you mark your mark where real photographers are concerned (great site name by the way, and like the 'real names' policy!)

Marco

Hi Hamish,

Do me a favour though mate, will you?

Please don't allow Dave Cawley a platform to drag up our dispute from here, especially when he's twisting things to suit himself, as I can see evidence of this happening at the moment, although I know you've asked him to stop it, so thanks for that :)

The last thing I want is to look at your site and see a load of AOS bitching going on from people joining who have an axe to grind. This will do your new site no favours whatsoever. I can assure you that I'll not be discussing him here unless it's in relation to his products when they're mentioned.

Cheers, dude!

To be quite honest, I don't see why I shouldn't just remove Dave's account completely and be done with it, as he's made it blatantly clear he no longer wishes to be a part of this forum, although I had to laugh at his comment about being very much "ex-AOS", as he spends more bloody time signed-on here lurking than anywhere else!!

Marco.

cheers nick ... I can't take credit for the real name idea myself but I do think it's going to work out well for us ... There is a very popular American digital video forum that it works well for so we are hopeful it's not going to put to many people off!

The Vinyl Adventure
17-06-2010, 22:22
Marco,
yeah, well it was just unfortunate that the first 2 people who started posting were dave k who just happend to email me to ask if the froum was going to happen the day it went live and dave Cawley who has been involved in a sence from the get go ...
I have expressed my wish that that sort of thing not continue and I'm sure dave and dave and others will take notice f my request

other than that, shall we just leave it there on this topic, it unfortunate that any of this sort of thing happens but it's just the way it is... I won't allow my forum to become a bitching ground any more than it has so far ...

Marco
17-06-2010, 22:34
That's fine, Hamish, I understand - much appreciated. I'll pop in for a looksee now and then, anyway.

Like I said before, if there's anything we can do to help make your place as successful as possible, let me know

Marco.

Cheers buddy, there has been a few questions I thought about asking you, but I have found it much more productive finding stiff out my self... So far...

The Vinyl Adventure
17-06-2010, 22:41
Nick, on the subject of the real name thing... Have a look at our registration form...
We have a little bit of code that only allows certain formats of username... We are particularly impressed with that ... It took ages to figure out I can tell you and just for maybe 10 characters of code... Happy as a pig in plop with that I am!! :)

Marco
17-06-2010, 22:42
I'm here if ya need me :)

One thing I'd do as soon as you can is fill up the empty rooms with stuff and remove the "never" headings, as it looks bad and makes your place appear like a dead forum.

That's one of the first things we did when AOS went live.

Marco.

The Vinyl Adventure
17-06-2010, 22:53
Yeah, I will get something on there soon enough...It is on my todo list.... It just time... I started work at 9 this morning and finnished at 9.30 this evening ... I just gotta prioritise my time ya know...

Marco
17-06-2010, 23:05
Yup, one step at a time.... I'm just saying what we did with AOS when it was brand new. It seemed to work ok, as look where we are now. It'd be good for your site to be just as successful :)

Marco.

Well done Hamish!

Looks a nice place & I'm sure I'll pop over from time to time, not that I know much about photography. I've just got a little point n squirt so maybe a place to pick up a few tips etc

Hope it's a success mate!

Cheers, alfie.

Great Hamish

Looks like you have done a grand job. No doubt I'll gravitate towards the site at some point. I used to fancy myself with my Olympus OM1/10 and used to develop and print in B&W. These days it is find a subject (hardest part) then just point and shoot and digital photography does the rest!
Look forward to future visits - Well done.

Garry

Ok, chaps, new rule: all AOS-ers must be joint members of here and the Real Photographers Forum..... This is non-negotiable, otherwise:

Marco

I'm not sure it'd be wise, my little spankee monkee, given some of the people who've recently joined ;)

Don't wanna make things awkward for certain parties there, and least of all Hamish.

See? I'm such a considerate big bastard!

...that, and the fact you've only got a tiny one. Still, it's not the size that matters, it's what you do with it that counts - some great photos taken on tiny compact cameras. ;)

Joking aside, all points fair, and hopefully RPF will take off big stylee.

Oi, Matilda, don't divulge the secrets of last night's webcam session!!

Aye, happiniess is a packing a wee 'point and shooter'..... :eyebrows:

We'll certainly be doing all we can to make that happen. I'm having a think about how AOS could best help achieve that aim :)

It's still a thing of beauty, Hamish. I only wish I had more time to dedicate to learning from your forum as I certainly have picked up a few priceless bits of info. My photography enthusiasm tends to blossom when I go on holiday so I guess I'll get active again in August.

Thanks for the FTG Chris

Cheers Martin!
I shall look forward to the shots in August then :)

It's going quite steadily now on the forum ... Lots of active enthusiasts and a very positive atmosphere still ...
In fact there has only been one record of members falling out with each other in the two years it's now been running. Tis good! :)
