View Full Version : Which amp for kef 104/2?
Organic sounding.
I like valors but not the hastle.
With remote.
Used up to around 800.
Any reccomendations?
I was thinking quad 909 cdp2, but with the quad-link apparently the sound quality is compromised.
Thanks

I've heard the Quad Vena II recently and that was very good.

Then don't use the Quad Link.
By a mile, the best I heard with the 104.2 was the Lentek. God knows why but it is a sublime combination. It is a shame that you need remote control.

That loses the remote on/off.

The most fun I had with a pair of 104/2s was with a Nait 3. It got my feet tapping more than I thought the speakers could ever do. Might not be the sound you're looking for though.
They were nice and natural/organic sounding with an Opera Consonance push pull EL34 amp.
Quad 306 or 606 (preferably MK 2)- - Superb!
If you need remote try Quad 66.

I used my old pair with a selection of amps, the 10wpc Puresound A10 (EL84 PP Valve Amp), the Restek Challenger and Sony TA-F770ES.
They are quite sensitive and a flat 4-Ohm impedance load so as long as your amp is happy with 4-Ohms it should be fine.
I found the big Sony TA-F770ES to be the best match, and super flexible with inputs, decent MM/MC input etc.
I currently have a Bryston B60R which I suspect would be an great match too!
