Hello!

I recently bought Onkyo NS-6170 network player for about 570 euros.
I got all fired up also thanks to this man Hans Beekhuyzen and his youtube video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FT_rHAKSfhg

It is said, the sound quality is very very good, and I have no problem with that anyway.

HOWEVER, the frigging thing takes forever to connect to services and to actually start playing music.
Yeah, even to get access to the external hard-drive, which is always connected, it takes a solid
1-2 minutes to be able to browse files on it and play them. And also - Google play music, Tidal,
Deezer, Youtube Music, Spotify. They all take forever to connect to the Onkyo.
I tried all of these hoping one of them will be faster, but no. Also, design of these apps tends to suck
anyway, apart from GPM, which has a good design, but then again "errors" the most. Onkyo's own app
is also pretty bad.

I do encourage you to tell me about your experiences with streamers, perhaps you can suggest me
something that you use, and that works good and fast. And also - may be you also have this Onkyo
or NS-6130, and what is YOUR experience with it?

As for now, for user friendliness, I would NOT recommend this equipment.

Thank you for your time!

Veiko

Something definitely not right with your unit, this isn’t normal and a thing other people talk about.
Maybe try a factory reset?

Thank you guys.

I kinda reached some success with this Tidal, which now I have chosen to use and pay for.

My own hard-drive catalogue is harder to reach, and I kinda feel, it sounds lesser, if it makes any sense. So Tidal hi-fi for now, bigger selection, though a lot of internet use. And yes, it sometimes still disconnects and drives me on the edge.

Thank you again.

However. Having explored the Tidal app further I realized I have an option to play some music with Master quality,
mqa files, as I understand. Also, the streamer (NS-6170) was advertised as mqa capable, so it looked good.
However. If I set music quality to MASTER it disconnects me from the Onkyo streamer and continues music only on the phone.
As I then reconnect to Onkyo streamer, it automatically switches quality from Master to Hi-Fi.
Now something fishy is going on here. I contacted onkyo and also Tidal, and at the moment I am waiting for their answers,
hoping for some kind of solution. I have done the offered updates of course.

On the Youtube, there is a user "Billys Ekso" who has uploaded many videos of mqa files being streamed from Tidal to the same
Onkyo model, NS-6170. So I do hope to hear some useful feedback from Onkyo.
Your comments are very welcome, as well.

Thank you!

I got it sorted out. Turns out to stream mqa files I only can use Onkyo controller app linked to Tidal, and NOT the Tidal app itself.
So it works and it sounds awesome. Thou it takes a lot of internet.
