After a bit of a think I've decided to simplify the system and get a solid state integrated. I've found one that I can live with, it's not as good as my pre/power combo but it's good enough, so this has to go.
This is the cleanest most transparent pre amp I've had once I upgraded the valves. It has a few quirks like the treble and bass tone controls are flat at 10 and 2 o'clock respectively! Also the bypass button seems to introduce a loudness contour which isn't what I'd call a bypass! Nevertheless with the bypass off it sounds extremely clean and not degraded in any way. I have grown to love the tone controls and do play with them on occasional recordings to sound right. Oh and the valve in the window is just for display so I took it out.
It has many features you'd expect to see on much more expensive amps. 4 signal valves (2x ECC81 2x ECC82, not the usual Chinese only models line 6N1 etc) and a valve rectified power supply. 2 separate transformers (to keep the noisy valve heaters separate from the signal path supply I believe). Soft start with flashing power light. Thick aluminium front and quality RCAs. High and low impedance outputs to aid power amp matching (worked a treat with my class D, solid state and valve power amps). It's based on the Marantz 7 circuit.
I'm looking for £175 collected from North London (near the M25 for those traveling from outside, and the A406 for those not). That's including the upgraded signal valves (GE and Jan Phillips IIRC). It's in very good condition.
