View Full Version : Wanted: Smooth/Analogue Sounding DAC
Looking for a "smooth" sounding DAC - appreciate this is a little vague but I am after something along the lines of an Audio Note/Border Patrol etc type offering.
Must be pretty much unmarked - am a little anal in this regard. Budget absolute maximum budget of £900.

If it's for CD, you could look at something from Meridian or Monarchy Audio.

It is for attaching to a streamer.

MHDT are good.
Just been reading good reports about TeraDac.
Thanks for the suggestions. The Arcam is supposed to be an excellent bit of kit if difficult to find.

You won’t go wrong with a DDDAC 1794. One for sale on PFM not long ago, I’ll see if I can find the link.

A very good forum member too, who knows his stuff. Dac for those who don’t like digital pretty much covers it.

I have an M2Tech Young with linear psu I'm thinking of moving on.
Not sure if it's the sort of thing you're looking for but I'm pricing it at £325 + your choice of postage.

Border Patrol DAC? SE version with both USB and S/PDIF inputs?
The Border Patrol would be great but outside my budget.
I have a Chevron Paradox NDF NOS Dac which certainly is smooth and analogue sounding and in addition massive amounts of fine detail. Various inputs including AES, Coaxial and USB. Outputs are balanced and unbalanced. Serviced and USB upgraded by Colin Yallop in 9/16. £750

Blimey! I didn’t realize you were selling this Edward.
Lovely sounding DAC

Possibly a mistake but I'll probably got for something a little more mainstream. Thanks anyway.

Had one of those a while back. Nice DAC but I didn't really get on with it in my system.

Lovely sounding DAC
Heart vs Mind Adam. Mind says sell as I don't use it much these days, heart says keep as I know what such perfection this DAC is.

Feel free to change your mind if you want Rob. :)
Paradox is a good dac Ed. Didn't know u had one..
I’ve got a SW1X DAC1 Standard Passive that might do the trick. It’s been compared to the Audio Note DAC 0.1 & AN DAC 1 for a fraction of the price. It has a zero feedback valve output stage & sounds wonderful running off of my streamer.
I can sort out some pics if you’re interested. Looking for £575 & you can have it on approval, so if you don’t get on with it you can return it & just cover the delivery cost.
Thanks for the offers guys. I think I may have sorted something through a different route - will update the thread if I get sorted.

Consider this

I've been discussing it with the vendor, who seems helpful, the condition seems good. I'm very tempted, I already own one Theta DAC and I think they are exceptional -- the only thing that stops me buying it is that I'm absolutely determined not to accumulate lots of hifi!
