Picked up my replacement car yesterday
I am now the owner of a Nissan Leaf :eyebrows:
I've gone all electric :D
Packed with features , I am ploughing my way through the instruction manual
I was a diesel head ( previously a petrol head )
Now I'm a electrichead :D
Let's see how long it takes me to run out of battery power and end up stranded :D
I looked at the leaf myself although not in the flesh, didn't quite get that far as I went halfway house with the hybrid.

Its stramge doing your first drive , No clutch , No gear stick auto or manual , No turn key starting
Then when you move off no noise other than a slightly audiable whirr , No noticable gear changes , it just glides away silently
Very comfy , Loaded with features , When reading yet another forum found out you can buy a diagnostic plug and a phone App called Leaf Spy that lets you into what Nissan see , loads of things in the menu are customisable , Example you can adjust the length of time the interior light stays on after exiting the car , Decide if you want auto rain sensing wipers on or off
You can see the anount of fast charges and normal charges the car has had and the status of each of the power cells , Quite impressive , Also you can set the climat control to come on and warm the car up for you prior to unpluging from the mains :eyebrows:

The new ones look super cool, and no doubt it'll be really economical, but the important thing is the boot's loudspeaker-carrying capacity :)

Good to read this thread - and wow - you've beaten us to electric. We're probably going for a Renault Zoe, plus A.N.Other. The Leaf has, I hear, a strange way to control the speed and braking - one pedal operation. Would be interested to hear how you get on with that. We know a couple of people who have Leafs (what is the plural? - Leaves?) - and one of them said it took hardly any time to get used to the different form of control.
Did you get a home charger fitted as well? That's what Renault offer, though in these remote parts it's also possible to get an interest free loan, plus a charging point, courtesy of the council - or is it the Scottish government?
Take care, and don't run the battery flat if you can avoid it. Let us know how far you get on typical days.
There are a few gotchas re these cars - some have been pointed out before. Round here there are charging points, but some are time limited.
That seems to make sense, but it doesn't make sense if one wants to park for say 2-3 hours, yet the charging only takes an hour. One could then be singled out as anti-social for blocking others from the point. Another thing I noticed is one venue (restaurant/coffee shop) which has dedicated electric vehicle spaces - but "everyone" knows that there are hardly any electric cars so *****s without electric cars park in them.

Well I will be most interested in how you find it Al, as I am possibly getting to the point of having to change vehicle for various reasons. If I recall rightly your day/night job involves driving large vehicles so a silent woosh will be quite different I guess.:D Hope it works out.:)

They are betting on the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle market of future.

Hydrogen research is being wound down.
I like the leaf as its a nice car. How the all electric will fair is interesting. 2 model sizes. 160ml range and a longer range 220 or so, but it depends on load etc so I expect, like internal combustion figures it will be 20/30% less on Ave.
I love my hybrid so be interested on your take Al

I love my hybrid so be interested on your take AlI suspect they're well aware that most sales are in cities where the availability of charging points is a stranglehold and infra structural costs of change prohibitive. Frankly I see hydrogen as the likely winner (at least in cities) in the medium term.

Nice one Al. The new Leaf is much more stylish than the last one. Not quite big enough for a family wagon, though. But I am pretty sure our next main car will be an EV - I'd like a Tesla Model 3 but the family likes an SUV so probably waiting to see how the Model Y and Mustang-E pan out. Whether we like it or not, internal combustion is rapidly on the way out. I don't think manufacturers can keep up with the demand yet though.

With Renault & Nissan being the same company, I'd assume (rightly or wrongly, but likely) that they're pretty much the same vehicle underneath?
Main difference being that Nissan make sure their version is built properly unlike Renault whose cars are, to quote Clarkson, thrown together by disinterested Algerians
The Zoe is built in France, but there may be a few Algerians on the assembly line... Not sure the nationality matters, does it?
My car was built in Turkey... seems well enough built to me

yup the zoe is not much like either the leaf or any other tbh. All electrics only make financial sense imo if you have the congenstion charge to consider, at moment... The best under £30k one is the E-Golf, then the Leaf overall I think. But things may change quite quickly.
The Kia e-niro is a bit dearer but also a very good motor; think i'd probably not want to pay the extra tho..

But Allen should be safe enough with his Leaf - I think they've been doing it longer than anyone else, so should be pretty sorted. Like Toyota with their Hybrids.
Marco is being rather quiet on this thread, he usually has lots to say on this subject, none of it good :(

I am liking the Leaf , Quiet , smooth and plenty of power / speed if required
On a full charge it show 91 miles , I can do work and back 3 days 71 miles , At 20 miles left the low battery warning comes up
At home on charge it take 10 hours ( With the 3 pin plug slow charger ) and shows a charge rate on my British Gas smart meter of £0.40 per hour when charging , so £4 to cover 71 miles , Not bad , even better than my last diesel that did 60 mpg at £6.08 for 5 ltrs

That's good news. I like my partial electric. No plug tho.
Not as good mileage but Ave 60 except in winter when lots of power consumibles are on.

It's a 1800 petrol engine that does most of work and gas a smallish pack to assist it.

Following with interest, but so far worrying about running out of power would put me off one , and the current explosion in theft of catalytic converters (90 secs and gone) puts me off Toyota hybrids !!
