Yes the guy who shipped my Akai reel to reel to me used this stuff around the original box and the new box that it sat in + inside the original box as well. The Akai arrived in minty nick but the box was so massive by the time it had all been packed, I could barely get it through the front door of the house .

But its good stuff to use protecting corners of equipment and boxes.

Packing items is so easy, just allow 4-6'' stuffed free space all around the item, make sure all corners are re-enforced & pack with the thought of the item suspended in the centre of the box, any impact will hit the packed free space.

If i use a courior & it's not too heavy i've been known to line the box with cut to size half inch MDF before packing as your generally allowed about 25Kg weight..A mistake senders of turntables make is leaving the platter & llids attached to the deck.

That is assuming you can find a suitable box.

Also the problem with this approach is that it can massively increase shipping costs.

For example, the tape deck I'm shipping to Dimitri is very safely packed in a comparitely modest box 52cm x 47cm x 26cm (the box itself is stupidly tough, like armour plated cardcoard), but they are charging on a 'Volumetric weight claculation' of 15kg, which is probably 50% more than it actually weighs but there's no option to adjust it for cheaper shipping.

If I'd used a box that much bigger it would have cost a bloody fortune!

Oh and this is via P4D who I've usually fround to offer the best prices for international shipping.

When your parcel travels by air or sea we are charged not only for the weight of your parcel but the amount of space that parcel takes up on the boat/plane. In order to charge correctly for the weight and size of your items, carriers have developed an international volume to weight calculation.

For example:

A parcel weighing 10 kilos or less in actual weight would travel on our under 10 kilo service, but only if the ‘volumetric weight’ was also less than 10 kilos. However, if for example, you have a parcel that weighs less than 10 kilos in actual weight but has dimensions of 19 x 18 x 17 inches the ‘volumetric weight’ of this parcel comes to 15.9 dimensional kilos and would have to travel on our under 25 kilos service instead (or next equivalent service up).


So in other words, a big. safe box will cost you a shed-load even if it's full of super fluffy packing material.....

If you print caution fryable asbestos fibers inside (do not agitate shipping carton).
Carriers will be careful not to throw the box around.

Indeed - I sometimes need to destroy very sensitive information on CD-ROMS or hard drives - I just post them to myself with either a "PLEASE DO NOT BEND" or "FRAGILE - HANDLE WITH CARE" sticker on them - job done, no one will ever be able to read the data again! :)
