It's all work related - plus my wife lives there and works in the hotel industry.

Primary kit list is in my signature now but extras are:
REL Strata subwoofer (unused due to apartment life)
Sansui Au6900 (used as phono pre-amp and for late night headphones)
Headphones are Philips SHP2000 (a revelation at a fraction of the price after my Sennheisers died)
NAD S170i surround sound processor (unused and don't like sound)
Sansui Au777A (gorgeous, fabulous but unused as it doesn't drive electrostatics)
A crappy Sansui badged mono VCR for news and other TV
Pioneer SX 1050 receiver
Sansui 3000 4 receiver
and a ROTEL 955 CD player (only transport is used)

Other items not in pic are:
Linn LP12/Alphason HR100S/Asaka (TD 125 preferred)
Beogram 4000 (bit worn out = rebuild project in future)
Thorens TD 124/Shure thingy (maybe V15 don't recall, packed away long time)

All a bit of a mess as it is being dis-connected and packed but I had to get a pic anyway.

The server, 2 modified chassis bolted together, consists of:
Asus mobo
AMD quadcore
3 x 500GB Seagates in RAID 0
2 x 250 GB Seagates in RAID 0
8 GB RAM
WIN7 64
Creative USB Live 24bit soundcard

Sound is acceptable and system is used for ripped files (music and movies) and vinyl restoration - would like to replace USB with a Behringer ADC/DAC in time.

Why 2 chassis? Space and cooling constraints mostly - want to change fronts to match speakers!

Absolutely.

I mirror to another machine with non-RAID 1.5TB drives via gigabit LAN using iScsi.

And have a 1,5 TB portable drive with the really important bits on it too...

It's all a bit of work to set up but the more you bruise on the training ground the less you bleed in battle!

Nice system Arthur.Always glad to see old Sansui stuff.
Have you made restoration of the Sansui amplifiers?It would be really unfortunate that something happens to them :doh:
Some newer models should have no problems with your speakers.Impedance issue,am I right?

My first amp was a Sansui AU555A back in 1971 and I have enjoyed them ever since - particularly like the old styling. Except for the AU777A the sonics are not up to todays standards but hey, let's get nostalgic here.

Robert, yes, I believe it is an impedance issue. I drove some ML Scripts with it and a channel went dead after about an hour. It was back a day later but I had disconnected the Scripts by then. Now I use it for headphone listening only. But I am taking it for a major overhaul/service with a local audio engineer who has a good rep. Definitely want to keep them operational.

It means it is my opinion that relative to market position todays equipment probably sounds better, leastways I should hope so else all the effort and money spent on R&D has been a waste. Not mention all the hot air expended in hifi mags.. :-)

I have been informed that there will be no problems; of course time will tell.

PS I like your set up specially that AU1100A. There was one locally a few years back I looked at but the owner had a reputation for tinkering with the innards and I decided against it.
