I introduced myself to the forum a couple of weeks ago as someone with a long-standing interest in hi-fi but absolutely no understanding of what goes on inside the various 'boxes'! Having read a lot of threads, the inner workings of my bits of kit have become something of a fascination and I find myself wanting to take the lids off and have a fiddle around.
I have a practical bent and can turn my hand to diy having made a fair fist of various projects around the home. What has struck me here is the enthusiasm of the posters and the endless possibilities for improving the musicallity of my existing equipment. I'm a sound enthusiast rather than an equipment enthusiast so am not driven by the visual appeal of systems, you know, being compelled to own this bit of kit or that bit of kit.
I'm in upgrade mode at present but rather than go racing around buying components I'd really like to see if I can improve what I already have or buy decent quality second-hand stuff and modify it myself - I want a sound that suits me and that I have the ability to tweak, diy does seem to be a real option and I want to have a go.
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone in my area with these skills and, therefore, I'd like a mentor, an 'upgrade angel', who would be prepared to hold my hand and instruct/advise me with modding/upgrading and have some fun along the way.
Any volunteers?
