After building these 6 years ago, and refining them since, my wife has heard a pair of big Quads and likes the way they portray vocals. I can't argue with that, and I have always liked electrostatics, so these big transmission line speakers are for sale. The design is by Troels Gravesen; they started as the SEAS ER Jenzens, but I upgraded the mid drivers and crossovers to the NEXT configuration. I tried a pair of AMT tweeters in them, but returned to the SEAS tweeters after discovering the frequency dip I had was due to listening on the wrong axis. They now have adjustable tilt to fine tune this.

http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Jenzen-NEXT.htm

I have also upgraded some crossover components (Mills resistors on the tweeters, and Mundorf caps and resistors where they sounded better), the internal and external wiring is Studio Connections Reference, and the crossovers are mounted externally on isolating loops, and there is switchable attenuation for the tweeters and midranges.

The cabinets are made from a laminate of 18mm birch ply and 6mm MDF, with extra thickness for the fronts, as specified by Troels. I have added curved sand filled sides which create an incredibly inert cabinet, so the usual panel resonances are pretty much absent.

The fronts and tops are covered in black leather, with oak veneered sides and walnut trim top and bottom, while the backs are veneered with Wenge. The plinths have outriggers with adjustable spikes sat on cups to protect my polished oak floor.

These are powerful speakers, with bass that can punch me in the chest, and will respond to a powerful amp. I am using a Parasound Halo A21; over 250W per channel, and the room cries enough before the speakers.

They are infinitely tuneable, if you so wish, but I have done the work so you don't need to.

There are a couple of long and rather rambling build threads for those who like such things, and I will advise on any set-up or tuning questions as needed. Unfortunately most of the pictures are gone, as they were on Photobucket.

And without the protective bars. These were temporary to protect the drivers from grandsons with rucksacks, but my wife likes them, so they have stayed! I had some over the tweeters, but they affected the sound, so I haven't been using them. They can be refitted if desired.

I live in Plymouth, which is a long way from almost anywhere, but we do have a spare room, so if someone is serious there is the possibility to stop over, and I have a people-carrier, so I am prepared to deliver them for the cost of the fuel, as long as I can do the round trip in one day.

I'm asking £1000 for a quick sale, which doesn't even cover the component costs! But there is no room for these and Quads.*:D

BTW, these are also advertised on a couple of other forums.

Your mail box is full.

I might just as well ask here:
Where are you located?
Judging from your posts might be too far for me, but I though I would ask...

I heard these a while ago at Dick's place.

They are definitely worth the asking price IMHO.

For my musical taste I'd take these over Quad 2905 for the following reason: they'll go way louder with ease and pump out some pretty solid bass. So reggae, electronic and rock fans with the need for volume these will be worth considering.

That's not to knock 2905s which I actually think are one of the better Quad models. They just present things rather differently and in some ways better.

Any audiophile has to own panels at some stage so that has to be born in mind;)

In the flesh they are very well made.

An absolute mega bargain for someone here - beautifully built and the commercial equivalent would be well in excess of 10K!

Yes, I wasn’t being ‘generous’ (I don’t know the OP at all), but a commercial build with these drive units would be 10K and the cabinet and crossover may well bring it to 15/20K (you know the market and I’m sure you would agree).

Justin, you are one of the rare individuals who is able to make very high quality DIY and the results are genuinely commensurate with any high quality commercial manufacturer, but such DIY builds are extremely rare and this is one of the few out there.

Plymouth.

If you were closer I would certainly give it a try.
They are huge! TG has a smaller bass reflex version of those but yours seem to be TL.

Blimey! Maybe I should double the price?
Actually, I would rather someone was really happy with them, instead of getting as much money as possible. Although both would be nice. :D

Just making it real;)

Any potential buyer should also consider that Troels' cabinets are more like huge refrigerators; these have nicely curved sides!

As interest has been expressed and questions asked by a couple of people, I can update this thread.
One question concerned the springs (a la Townshend Stella stands) that I was using under the bass cabinets. As these were for 60kg they won't work with the total weight of 100kg, so I have calculated the spring rate and design for this. At the moment I am waiting for my previous supplier to get back to me, but anyone can make them; it's just he was the cheapest. I would give the mounting plates and adjusting bolts from the earlier set to the buyer of the speakers; they will fit the new springs. I took the damping foam out as it made no difference, and was ugly. The speaker leads added enough damping anyway

An alternative is the old inner tube design, of which I have a pair to suit. The only reason I had the springs made was because the steel spine for the top cabinets took up all the space under the speakers, so they wouldn't fit. Now the speakers are all in one again, they will. Simple, adjustable, and cheap. Everyone should have a pair! They are like these smaller ones I use under my HB3s. Two tubes allows levelling. Colour to suit, these are for the loft, so didn't bother.

Again, the purchaser can have these, but will just have to buy 3 more tubes. About £20 in total. Oh, and a pump! Adjust pressure as needed.

I concur, the build quality on these is excellent and they have a pretty big sound!
I’ve heard them many times and they are a complete bargain for someone, just bring a van, a mate and ur wallet :)

I've spoken to the spring manufacturer this morning, and he will make more springs for a broadly similar price. In five years there will have been an increase, but they would still be under £100 for a set of eight.

A bit of deja vu, here. Back to the days when hi-fi mags suggested sticking lumps of lead on your equipment, etc., etc..
The tyre trick is excellent. As are Richard's speakers. I bought a lovely (own build) LDR pre-amp from him - great man!

Somebody will be very happy!

Just when I finished sanding the floor, redone the skirting boards cooked the dinner etc and was going to have a serious conversation with s.w.m.b.o. about admitting bigger speakers in the reception room.

Delivered and set up for the buyer. Luckily my son came down from Manchester and helped, otherwise it would have been tricky! Plus I was able to pick up a pair of Quad 2805s from West London on the same trip. One is faulty, but that's another story.
