For sale: my beloved Audionote K/LX in premium yew finish, original fresh boxes and packaging, in fantastic condition. Newer spec models. I bought these from the original owner around 18 months ago. They've impressed me so much in this time.
They're about as well balanced, listenable , room and system friendly speaker you could buy. They sound brilliant with a 40 quid t amp or my single ended audionote amp. They just play music and will always be one of my favourite speakers.
Dem and collection Stoke on Trent
£950
Stands not included but I have a pair of AN type stands that I can include for an extra £60.

I have just bought a pair of these (I paid significantly more) but they are by far and away the greatest things I've had. They fixed all my issues of bright, shrill or whatever else I had and on top of that they are great to look at. My wife loves them and she has no interest in speakers at all.

Have a great big thumbs up from me on this one!

I'm using Kef reference 2 at the moment, a very hifi speaker I feel, they have their merits, but still I find much of the music I like unlistenable, 60s rock stuff mostly, I like the blurb on the AN website about hifi vs musicality and what users say of these speakers, hopefully they'll be the answer.

Actually just plugged the Charios back in and they suit my room better than the Kefs, which are probably too big for my listening space. They're more musical than the Kefs, wonder how much they'll differ from the ANs, the thing that strikes me about AN speakers is the shape - wide and shallow.

That's some fancy valves you got going on there.

Just plugged mine in, very mellow, bass is a bit underwhelming, did you mess about with positioning to get the bass/sound right on yours? I see you have them right up against the back wall. Just read a really good article the AN J, which I think are very close to the K in terms of size, it recommends right up against the wall with a strong toe in, trouble is that would mean I'd have to remove my TT shelf, damn it, that was a bugger to install! But I gotta try.

They weren't but upto the wall at mine Mike. Got a bit stodgy and slow if I set them up on that way. Very small adjustments make quite a difference. Bass was dry with solid state amp. Needs an el34 type valve amp to sing.

Mine aren't right against the wall either, probably about 40cm away and toe in isn't huge. I don't find they need to be too near the wall, well not in my room anyway. No issue with bass but again, someone else may think it's gone AWOL.... Mine are being driven by KT90s but haven't tried anything else.

Edit: I can see from my picture above they are closer, that was when I first got them, they are further out now....

OK, I've managed to jam them right in the corners, will post pics this evening, bass is more pronounced now, sounding quite lovely with jazz anyway. Its great to save the space that my old speakers took up, as they were out into the room more.

They'll generally sound better with valves that's what most owners use I think.

Well just about enough room to jam them in the corners! To me they sound like monitor type speakers, like Spendor sr3, only not so flat sounding as those. Not sure these are really gonna be able to rock out much. Really wish I had the ability to have two systems, as I'd like to keep these and as some have suggested use with valves and then have another system for heavier music, or just rotate systems may'be? Luckily I have an attic in my flat, so I can store stuff there, other wise there ain't a lot of space.

Just goes to show differences in taste as I love mine and they rock as much as I’d ever want. Jazz and Bob Dylan are my usuals but 70s rock like Floyd, Zep, Deep Purple all work great.

Does your cartridge pick up the noise from you speaker?

If not, I don't know how.

Mike, you seem to be lurching from crisis to crisis.

You've gone from the mega power of the Kefs to speakers that people match to valves, because they make "nice jazz"

I'm struggling to understand what you are going for.

Personally, I'd shift that LP storage. Move the hifi rack to the middle and then give the speakers a bit of space.

I can tell you from experience that it's never a boon for imaging etc when you're wedging them between other objects.

They sounded great with rock with just 18w of SET up them. I dont really listen to balls out death metal but certainly more bluesy rock.

Trouble is that TT shelf is obviously fixed to the wall and it was a bugger to install. So was just a short term thing putting the speakers where I have them now, to see how they sounded close to the wall. Will move everything around in time. Listening to some John Martyn now, very nice, they have some special quality that I can't quite describe...…. The Kefs actually sounded quite dead in my room, I realized after I put my Chario syntars back in and the sound cohered much better, if you look at my photo you can see I don't exactly have a regular listening space, with the lounge and kitchen in the same room but separated, to the right of the pic you can may'be see the kitchen cabinet? Anyway, as ever, will run these for a few weeks and see how I get on with them, would like to try them with valves now. Think I'll end up with two amps and 2 sets of speakers, and rotate them, as I love aspects of both types of systems.

Actually, I thought I could have used my other radiator, however just discovered the other radiator doesn't work! So.…...lol, gonna have to do a massive room change and place the system on the wall opposite it, which might actually be better, as it has solid corners as opposed to now where one corner is the kitchen cabinet, so not solid a corner!

I forgot to mention the drivers can deform and the foam deteriorate. So really important you move them!!

Have moved speakers forward and sideways into the room, they sound better now, but then again they sounded better when I moved them from this position to against the wall!

So am gonna move them to the opposite wall pictured here, away from the kitchen, might be better for the acoustics, a bit more space there as well. See my other speakers taking up much needed space! Anyone want these Kefs? ?

As Oliver stated, cart was picking up noise from speaker, not much, but sounded odd when stylus hit vinyl, not the case now I've moved them away from the TT a bit. Listening to some Carly simon now, sounding quite lovely, definitely want to make these speakers 'work' in my flat, quite happy to swap around a bit.

Main impression of these speakers is that they are quite propulsive, the bass is limited so this accentuates the treble, so you hear a fair bit more detail on cymbals for instance, or it just stands out more, may'be why they're also propulsive, the percussion is allowed more room. They do have a lovely character, but I am finding the percussion a bit too dominant, will hold onto them until I get some sort of valve amp, then see, actually thinking valves might be the way to go for me. I like a lot of 60s beat/rock and wonder what systems were in use then to make that rather dissonant music listenable. Listening to the Kinks Arthur earlier, and the vocal harmonies were once again accentuated so better able to be appreciated, have yet to position them optimally, so further improvements to come hopefully, certainly enjoying them now with some latin jazz.

Some sort of valve amp! You have a Croft pre - I would so highly recommend a Croft valve (mosfet) power amp - lovely amp. Won't be beaten!
