Maybe you should have given folk an idea of why the link etc. Its fairly pointless just sticking a link to a longish thread started about 10 yrs ago on a completely different site, without saying why

The purpose was to get views from you guys as to whether or not the term "gay" was derogatory or offensive in the context of the comment.
I was trying to see if anybody did without making the suggestion

In the past I would possibly refer to something being “gay” but I wouldn’t now - I think generally we’ve moved on and are much more tolerant and accepting that it is normal to have a same-sex relationship and therefore offensive to degenerate it.

I think among friends, gay or not, but in person, it's fine.
Posting it on a forum etc always opens ones self up to it being misconstrued. Sometimes by prudes, sometimes by agitators. It's become a bit of a minefield tbh.
As much as I disagree with things like homophobia, I also struggle with the perpetual politically correct crew who must be 'right '

Difficult to say - Personally I don't find it offensive and have used the term occasionally, but never publicly and only with friends whom I know share a similar humour.

I know quite a few gay men and women, but I honestly don't know how they feel about it. There's this one lesbian who I will see on Saturday, and maybe I'll ask her if I can pluck up the courage - she's the same height as me but twice as wide. I have a feeling she would be more offended by that last sentence :)

If somebody was genuinely offended that would be very different to being told they should be offended by a third party, or that third party being offended on their behalf
