Golden oldie

Golden oldie joins ranks of young whippersnappers. Retired, like instrumental classical style music and have an old beaten up PE turntable with mono cartridge playing onto some homw brew electron valve tube amplifiers with Coral Beta speakers at the receiving end.

As I was once involved in turntable design related work I have jumped in the deep end with a reply to a post in one of the sub forums (read it is you find it and remember it is only my opinion).

PE turntable eh? They were very well engineered as I remember with incredibly complex looking mechanisms. I believe Dual took them over and the last decks to have the PE name looked like they had much simpler Dual derived auto mechs in them...

Dale it is indeed. Originally from the windswept chills of Angus in Scotland.

It was a dark day for St Georgen when PE became part of the Dual brand and even darker when it all expired. The mechanisms look complicated but are very functional even allowing for the Schwarzwald tendancy to over engineer everything in sight.

The Dual 1019 is well known here, but I don't think as many PE decks were imported, although I do remember seeing one in my favourite 1960's HiFi shop in Hemel Hempstead..
