i cant for the life of me think of the point of this plastic sprung loaded part which sits under the motor housing lid of my sony tts-8000 tt. when the lid is screwed down the plastic clip runs on the boss on the spindle. so whats it for apart from creating noise? the tt runs fine without it and silent, ive been trying various lubricants to stop the faint scraping noise from silicone grease to 50 sae oil,the latter seems to be holding up so far.

the sprung loaded clip,

the spindle boss it runs on,

Anti-reverse mech?

nope,it spins boths ways by hand.

Anti-reverse mech?

yes it looks like that, although it could be knackered

It will, but on start up the vibration will make it engage with a directional notch or peg I'm betting.

Anti-reverse mech?

Seriously? This is s high quality Japanese direct drive deck, not a Connoisseur BD1!

The Japanese engineers knew which way a record was supposed to rotate and made sure their motors only went that way...

yeah, well its a pretty shitty thing to find on a high end deck too:eyebrows:

excactly, which is why im asking whats it for, they would not have gone to all the trouble of designing a complex part that didnt have a purpose,im just buggered if i know what it does lol

Maybe a transportation aid? Looks like it's supposed to be (and is) sprung open which suggests it's otherwise screwed shut (unless there's a relay mechanism somewhere). Looks a bit half baked to be part of the mech, and the angled profile suggests its not got a braking function.

Having seen one in the flesh my best guess is that it is a damper for vibration being transmitted up the spindle.

i dont think so,there are no screws or screw holes on it to screw it tight against the boss,in operation the spring gives just a little pressure so lightly grips the boss whist the tt is running.

you may have something there, the trouble is angus without lubrication it makes an audio noise as the tt spins,i'll try some vaseline on it.

You would have thought it would have had a felt inner for that, or some method to stop noise.
