I know there is a lot of love in the hi fi community for Kenny G.

I never understood it myself..........But..............

This duet with Michael Bolton has convinced me.
The man is just a melodic genius.

Unbelievably good. I’m converted.

Absolutely dreadful. Just terrible. That guy just cannot sing and the wind instrument just sucks. Doesn't go with the vocal at all.

Just sayin'.

I agree with Justin - virtually unlistenable, but that's just my opinion.

Kenny g is unlistenable when playing properly too
It was their morcome and wise version I think

I think this is the original. I wonder if Jan Garbarek was doing the "shredding" it reminded me of his collaboration with the Hilliard Ensemble [emoji38]

Christ, thats even funnier than the shred version. Vomit inducing. Oh yes!!

Just in case anyone is in doubt. There is a whole scene of “shredding” on you tube, where folks take an original video and dub their version over the top. Usually for comic effect.

I like the one ( I suppose I would, given my user name ) where they take the Dave Brubeck band playing TAKE 5, and do their version...in 4/4, instead of 5/4

I also thought it was horrible. Just a pure contrivance.

Hi Tom. Yes i agree. These guys can play, and know what they are doing

Not only do they adapt the tune, but the alto player takes Desmond’s original solo and adapts it to 4/4.
Except the very end, about 1.28, when he injects a most un Desmond like flurry!! Love it.

Ps love the Vivaldi.

I think Kenny is a great player , just don’t like what he’s been playing for the last 30 years

IMO Kenny G plays anodyne musical 'pap'.

If that's what you like then so be it.

Probably goes quite well with bubble bath and scented candles. Though I would duck under the water and stay there till someone made it stop. But then I do have crap taste in music according to Mrs. P.

Who's Kenny G?

In fact, there are two KENNY Gs

Firstly there is Kenny Garrett.
(The last sax player with Miles Davis) He is an artist, who plays with honesty and with integrity. A very good sax player.

Then there is the subject of this thread.
He isnt any of those things

Hi Brian
I remember turning up at yours to buy that lovely Cadenza Black
You made me take off my workboots that had string instead of laces - embarrassing but nothing has Changed
Hi Fi makes you poor

Tim, if you dont know this guy, or his music, just go to You Tube and type in his name.

Anything that comes up will be a fair representation of his music. It is all done to the same sugary, contrived formula.

I just did that and came up with this . It makes me feel queasy !!!

Note the pictures chosen to enhance the mood. !!!!

You may have felt poor that day, but I felt loaded after you had gone!!!

Hope it is still giving you pleasure. It was a great cartridge

It was a fantastic Cart, changed everything for me, and I thank you for that - unfortunately the tip was cleaned off by the 'other half'
I tried a few others before I finally traded up the tipless Cadenza - I don't know what I'll do if anything happens to the present one!!

A similar vibe to Kenny G, but somehow I find it a lot less vomit inducing. And he can play !!!

I don't think Kenny knows where the 'G' spot is - His fingering might be accomplished but he doesn't seem to have the technique or feeling that is required :smoking:

Actually, he does play the instrument well.

It’s just what he does with it.

He plays the same stuff ( melodically and harmonically ) over and over, or with slight variations. It’s contrived and played with only one thought, which is to be as cheesy, appealing and as commercial as is possible.

Which in many ways is fine. He is probably the best know sax player in the world, and quite probably the richest. Hence the most successful.

It’s just the thinking behind it sticks in my gullet. For me, it is formulaic music at its worst.

Probably influenced in his formative years by Status Quo.

Apologies, I was being obtuse.

You'd have to pay me a Kings ransom for me to go looking for Kenny G or his music. Mind you, I would for some Tannoy Ardens ;)
