These look like real speakers! Would love to hear a pair. Are they a sort of Altec Lansing sound?

Definitely worth trying. I would loan you the pair I made for a short while, if you were closer than West Sussex ( I'm in N.Wales ! ).
I am still trying to get an upper-bass horn that does justice to them.
I made a pair by using Yuichi's plans for the A290S, and scaling it down by factor 1.4/2.0 to get a 415Hz horn of a more manageable size, suitable for use with my GPA 288H drivers. The combination of these with a sensitive ribbon tweeter above 5kHz is just stunning.
This is after I moved away from a pair of circular Le Cleac'h horns which I could never get happy with on vocals.

Would love to see some photos of these, Are these similar to the Pioneer Exclusive 2301 with the TAD driver?

No, that's very restricted vertically, a Smith Horn. Not convinced about those.
The Yuichi is more or less like the TAD bi-radials or the Vitavox ones as used now on the Vox Olympian.

Where did you find the plans?
It used to be easy until very recently.
Yuichi's site was : http://www.geocities.jp/arai401204/
I was able to access it again recently on the Internet Archive ( Wayback machine ) and saved many of the pages and pdf's of the plans.
Another example of how fragile the internet's resources are, many great websites are disappearing.
